Down through the ages most of us have been taught that the ego is a very negative aspect of the human personality. Everyone has heard stories about how the ego has driven people to shun things important to them  just so they can look good—even if they know they will suffer deeply for it later.
 
Obviously, not everyone behaves like that. Most people are just not willing to abandon everything just to look good.  They keep control of this powerful monster.  How do they do it? What do they know that other people don’t know? Or is the ego something different from what we were originally taught?
