Pecha Kucha Night - San Jose (public event)
UPDATE: Confirmed: Michael Moon will be presenting "The Perils of Reflection". He adds "it’s likely to be perilous." We're very excited to have Michael on the team!
------
Free Pecha Kucha Night - amazing stories by creative people.
Pecha Kucha are presentations that fight back against their stereotype of being long and boring, instead promoting brisk exchanges of interesting information.
The presentations follow two simple rules. First: each presentation contains twenty slides. Second: each slide plays for twenty seconds, then automatically switches to the next slide. The presenter does not exert any control over slides advancing.
So in six minutes and forty seconds the presenter has completed their time with the audience.
Pecha Kucha Nights are a social gathering of folks interested in invention, design, making, thought, and meeting like-minded folks. We're excited to found a San Jose branch of this world wide phenomenon, and invite you to attend and participate!
Speakers and topics for the first San Jose event will include:
"My Problems with Monkeys" by stand-up comic and computer software designer Howard Cooperstein.
"I Shoot at Night" a review of amazing long-exposure night photography and stories about exploring abandoned places in the dark by Mark Jaremko.
"Evolution of a Lounge Lizard" master costumer Kevin Roche on the creation of Conrad T. Lizard.
"Form over Function" - Surprises from graphic designer Steve Wishman.
"Making of Crackpot Comics" a small film maker on a budget makes a big "Clerks-style" movie as a series of webisodes by Lon Lopez. (Sounds like a movie plot in itself!) Likely a sneak preview too!
"Myth to Comic" - Taking the millennium-old Persian Shahnameh myth into modern comic books by Cameron Douraghy.
"Creating Your Resume on YouTube" by Peter Huboi. This one has to be seen!
And several more...
Did we mention it's free? Two drink minimum but no tickets to buy. If you've never been to the Improv, it's an amazing retro theater with tons of table seating in old-fashioned tiered style. Great for groups, so come by yourself or with a crowd!
