Travel Show & Potluck: Pedal for Peace in the Middle East (public event)
Group:
The Monterey Hostel, located in Monterey's Lighthouse District, is pleased to host a monthly potluck and travel show on the last Monday of every month. This evening, Betsy Schwartz, an intrepid bicycle traveler, will talk about "Pedal for Peace in the Middle East," her recent ride through parts of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and the West Bank.
The October 2009 "Pedal for Peace" trip included approximately 200 women from 28 nations in an effort to promote good relations and understanding among women of different religious and cultural groups. The goal was to raise awareness and empower women and children in the Middle East to play an active role in peacemaking. Betsy and five friends from the Santa Cruz County Cycling Club were accepted on the American team.
The optional potluck will begin at 6pm, the program will begin at at 6:45pm. Everyone is welcome! Please bring your favorite side-dish to share or make a monetary donation. For more information, please phone 831-899-3046 or 831-372-5762.
