The Thrift Box in Downtown Willow Glen is pleased to announce our Annual Art Sale, February 13-25, 2012.  We'll be offering original oil paintings, watercolors, and exciting decorator pieces! The Thrift Box, open Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm, is run by volunteers from the San Jose Auxiliary of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.  All proceeds from sales are donated to the hospital to treat Bay Area children whose families could not otherwise afford it, and to fund other special projects at Packard Children's Hospital.

They are held on the second Tuesday of each month, 8am-10am in Room 3 of the Willow Glen Community and Senior Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave (near Curtner). At 9:00-9:15am the meeting is an open forum for business and community members to share ideas and concerns. Willow Glen Library and Poetry Center San Jose are pleased to present their first all-haiku poetry reading!  An open mic reading will follow. All are welcome to bring a poem of their own or by a favorite poet to share. Featured poets Patricia J. Machmiller, Joan Zimmerman, Judith Schallberger, and Carol Steele will read from Wild Violets, the Yuki Teikei Haiku Anthology for 2011.  The reading will include a sampling of haiku and haibun poetry from the book.

Willow Glen Yoga presents a workshop entitled Yoga & the 12 Step Path, taught by Kyczy Hawk.  This workshop is suitable for all ages and all stages and types of recovery (24 hours or more clean and sober is suggested), and is appropriate for all levels of yoga practitioners, including beginners. Both yoga and the 12 Step recovery programs share similar tenets and philosophy. This workshop will sketch the broad outlines of their common views. We will go more deeply into the Yamas and Niyamas, the first two limbs of yoga. Through discussion and exploration we will find where these two limbs intertwine with the principles of recovery, one enhancing the other, becoming a strong model for self exploration and recovery and creating a new tool for relapse prevention. Cost is $40 until February 11, $50 thereafter.
