About Ellen

I moved to CA from Texas in 1996 and fell in love with the climate and the mountains. As a new docent for the MidPeninsula Open Space District, I love learning the history of the area and discovering cool places to hike, as well as how to identify plants and animals I encounter on the trails. Campbell is a great city and I spend time at the library, community center, farmer's market and Los Gatos Creek Trail. I hope to meet you along the way!

I love Yosemite, Alaska, Vancouver and Hawaii. Someday soon I hope to go to Yellowstone and then my fantasy trip to Greece.
My hobbies, interests, and special skills
I love to read (fiction, mysteries, bird and plant books). It's fun to take photos but I struggle with loading them up and keeping track of them all (anyone have good suggestions for managing digital photos files?). I'm up for a walk or a hike anytime. I like to garden and think my yard looks great--stop by if you want to talk about clay soil and what grows here.
Unusual facts and stories about me
I've met three Presidents (and lots of Secret Service agents). Being in public relations for years was always interesting. Also worked for nuns and Playboy magazine.
If you're married or committed, say something about your other half. How did you meet and what sparked your interest?
Pete was my first boyfriend in high school. It took us 33 years to get together--once we both moved to CA. I moved to the Bay area from LA when we connected and married in 1999.
Do you have kids or own any pets?
2 kids, several grandchildren--no pets

I wish I still had my beautiful bear.....

Pet peeves and other annoyances
my worse peeve is being peeved about stuff that doesn't make any difference--bad drivers, long lines (it's life and I'm trying to keep it in perspective this days).
Favorite quote/odd fact
A woodpecker has such a long tongue that it wraps around it's "brain" inside the skull. When it hammers out a hole and starts looking for a bug/meal inside the tree, it shoots this long tongue out which then goes up and down the vein of the tree looking for bugs.......it's just plain weird!!! But oddly fascinating.
