Great sushi, okay service

I love the food and go here often! Sushi is one of my favorite foods -- I could eat it everyday. And this place is conveniently located down the street from me. I haven't sampled much of the non-sushi items but the bites I've tried from my friends' meals were good. My favorite roll is the Titanic. I don't remember exactly what's in it but I think it's basically a California roll with raw fish on top. Sometimes the presentation isn't top-notch (and in Japanese culture, presentation is very important) but the food always tastes great and the price is very reasonable.
The service is not the best but the sushi chef is always friendly. Service is definitely one area they could improve on. I think part of it is the waitress' lack of English skills, and also the fact that in many Asian cultures customer service is a very foreign concept. I've never had them offer to refill my water glass, and I usually need a refill during a meal.
I was reluctant to try this place at first because I think I ate at another place of the same name in Downtown SJ before and it was manufactured stuff that they try to pass off as sushi, much like the stuff you get at Costco, Safeway or Trader Joe's. That stuff is not sushi nor is it palatable. But my neighbor suggested Sushi Zone so I tried it and was not disappointed.

I love Lee's Sandwiches. I haven't been there in awhile because the location is near my work, and when I do go out to eat, we always choose a more formal dining experience. The food is tasty, the bread is fresh (some people go in just to buy bread), and the prices are right. At $2-3 per sandwich, you can't go wrong. I've even eaten the combo with Asian meats that I can't even identify and it's good (and I'm not usually a fan of weird Asian foods, even though I'm Asian.) If you're looking for an alternative to Togo's, I would give this place a try. They also have spring rolls and other Asian appetizers.
Baksheesh (Sonoma) - Fair pay for Third World artisans

I found this place on a recent trip to Sonoma. It's like a mini-Cost Plus. I loved the necklace selection and wanted to buy more than I did. The necklaces were very reasonably priced, most at $14-20 each. They also carry handmade greeting cards, scarves, picture frames, teapots, home decor, planters, garden accessories, toys, games, nativities and ornaments. I was happy knowing that I'm helping to promote fair trade for third world artisans.
This is a great place to shop for gifts. Most of the stuff is geared toward females but some of the items are suitable for males as well. I went to the Sonoma store. There's also a Healdsburg location. I will definitely go back.

Thank you, Anonymous, for your review of Buca! I'll eat almost anywhere except for Chili's, Olive Garden, and Buca. I just don't understand the appeal of the place. I guess it's good for large groups because it's something everyone can agree on and not be too offended by. But I can make WAY better Italian food, and being in the Bay Area, there are way too many other good restaurants of all different cuisines to try. The food is subpar (it's just bland and boring) and the service is average. And, I agree with Anonymous, it's a bit overpriced. The decor is kind of gaudy too (I think that's intended.) Try Spaghetti Factory, Al Castello, A Bellagio, Frankie Johnnie & Luigi, Mio Vicino (?), or Il Fornaio instead.
I Love The Warfield

Yikes, Arsnova, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at The Warfield. It is my favorite venue because most of my favorite musicians tend to play there. I also prefer the small, intimate setting to my two least fave venues that everyone else plays, Shoreline and HP Pav (the sound is awful at both and the view way back is non-existant -- the only good thing about them is that they are only a 15 minute drive for me, and if you don't mind walking, there's free parking.)
I've never had a bad experience at The Warfield. I've only sat in the seats twice; I prefer to get floor tickets if I can. I guess that explains why I never really had to deal with the ushers. The last time I sat in seats was for Linkin Park, and after my friend left to use the bathroom, two Asian guys who didn't speak much English came and tried to sit in his seat (I guess lousy ushers and their lack of English comprehension explains that one.) The bathrooms I figure are like any other bar or club -- you'd be hard-pressed to find a nice bathroom in those kind of establishments. There was one month when I practically lived at The Warfield (I saw 3 or 4 concerts in that time.) I have never been to a bad concert there.
The first time I saw my musical hero, Moby, was at the Warfield in 2000. I am also seeing him there again May 6th! :) I've also seen some of my other favorites there -- Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, Zwan, Linkin Park, Box Car Racer, Neil Finn (of Crowded House), Seal and many others...
The only other venues that are comparable are The Greek Theater at UC Berkeley and The Oakland Coliseum. Slim's and Bimbo's are also nice intimate settings. None of my favorite musicians have played Bill Graham Civic, The Fillmore or the like (and I have been to at least 50 concerts in my concert-going career) so I haven't been able to experience them. Like I said, they almost always go to The Warfield.
I am sad to hear that The Warfield is owned by the evil conglomerate, Clear Channel, tho. They are horrid. I literally cannot stand half the crap Channel 104.9 plays, yet they also play some of my very favorites bands, and Live 105 doesn't always come in well.
I love music and going to concerts so much that I honestly can't say I've had a really bad concert-going experience. The worst concert I've ever been to was one of my favorite bands, Coldplay, at Shoreline. God, they were awful. They were phenomenal at The Greek in Berkeley a few months before. They just really went downhill after Gwyneth and I am not expecting much from their new album. The singing was subpar and the concert was the shortest concert I've ever been to. They had two incredible albums out at that time, so you can't blame lack of material. I felt cheated. It was really the first time I had gone to a concert and had to listen to the band in the car on the way home because they didn't play enough or well.
Excellent CA Rolls

The CA Rolls are excellent, and this comes from someone who prefers raw fish. The nigiri is also very good. The tempura was okay. I would really go for the sushi.
The service wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Granted, we had a large group but I asked for hot tea twice and it never came. We also asked for a fork and that never came.
