Alyis N Rose Cafe an oasis in an industrial area

RATING:

Thumbs Up!

This is by far one of the most beautiful, homey, and comfortable coffee shops/cafes I have ever walked into! The owner has filled the space with her own personal touches, comfy couches with plenty of reading material provided- art pieces abound along the walls and windows. The coffee is of very good quality as well, and I neglected to ask today (oops!), but I believe they also have fair trade/organic selections available. The brownies were fantastic, and the service was amazingly friendly. Great company during my lunch hour! There is an eco-conscious feel to the place, and the owner has installed a Gaia clothes recycling station outside, where you can conveniently drop off any unwanted articles when you visit.
It's well worth a traipse down Lafayette (near El Camino Real, at Lafayette and Civic Center Dr.) just to visit this cafe, for the warm atmosphere and reception that awaits you inside. Look for the big metalworked COFFEE cup hanging out in front.

The Barefoot is Beautiful!

RATING:

Thumbs Up!

Beyond the fact that this is my favorite place in the South Bay to find a good cup of coffee or espresso, Barefoot Coffee Roasters provides a great atmosphere for small progressive groups and community discussions to take place- many an afternoon has passed when I've walked into local meetings of peace activists :) This area sorely needs more spaces that are community-friendly and not solely designed to accommodate simple commerce, but Barefoot is a small oasis. The inside of the shop is a quirky mix of art chairs, while pieces by local artists continually adorn the walls. Some other items worth mention include the chalkboard bathroom, allowing all visitors to leave their wisdom of the day, and the shop's dedication to selling only fair-trade coffee. I believe all the beans are roasted on-site. Overall, this is a great place to check out and add to your favorites list!
