About alexandra
Alexandra Dorian, President of The Morgan-Kane Foodservice Group and the new owner of Emile’s Restaurant in downtown San Jose is a self proclaimed rebel. “A Rebel with a Cause”, she laughs. When one meets Alexandra, one is struck by her genuine compassion for what she does. Inspired by a life long need to prove herself in her field, her sense of mission in her products and services and a genuine love for her customers, Alexandra is determined for customers to blaze a trail to her door on 545 South Second Street.
Alexandra is the fifth generation of her family to bring a passion to the restaurant business. Her great grandfather fleeing from the pogroms of Czarist Russia sustained his family by owning café’s and bistro’s throughout Europe. Her grandfather and subsequently her beloved father carried on the family tradition when they came to America. “I was brought up in this business…literally. My parents didn’t have the money when I was younger to afford babysitters, so I spent my days and nights in our restaurants. After mastering almost every aspect of the business, Alex, as she prefers to be called, decided to leave the family business. That was the early 70’s. It was a time when women of her generation began to rebel. To be courageous and to question the status quo. “It was a time when merely asking the question, “Why?” was an act of rebellion itself. It was also a time when women began to enter the corporate arena. Alexandra donned her first suit, and worked her way up corporate America, working for such brand names as Hilton Corp., Sheraton International and Doubletree Hotel. Merging old world charm with corporate sensibility, Alexandra was primed to own her own business. Her lifelong mission is to serve the most gorgeous food and offer the most warm and responsive service.
“I’ve always wanted to own my own restaurant and to put all of these years of experience to the test. When asked what she believes her success is due to, she responded, “First I believe you have to follow your heart. You have to absolutely love what you do. And I believe you have to really believe in yourself….in your vision, and stand your ground. In order to grow you must be willing to take risks and break the rules. You have to be a rebel….a rebel with a cause.” And asked what her cause is, Alexandra’s eye’s light up.
“Well, you’ll have to come down to the restaurant and see it in action. It’s simply what we do.”
The restaurant is currently opened Tuesday thru Thursday from 5:30pm to 10:00pm and Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm to 11:00pm. Starting in April, Emile’s Restaurant will be opening for Lunch Monday through Friday with free Valet parking and Sunday Brunch. The restaurant has beautiful banquet facilities and we would love to design a banquet just for you. Also offered are corporate team building and cooking classes in conjunction with Chef Emile Mooser through his famous “Cooking with Emile” cooking school. “Our restaurant has the flexibility to handle any of your hospitality needs. Let me design your banquet for you allow our chef to create a wonderful tasting and wine pairing menu for you in our dining room. Let us inspire your employees. Let us teach you how to cook. We will do anything for your business. Just come in and see us, and we will totally take care of you”
Alexandra is a rebel….a rebel to watch.

Unusual facts and stories about me
I went to Woodstock (hated it) went to the Met's 69 World Series and sat in the Rheingold Box above the dug out (had a ball) and was The Blue Fairy in Disneyland in the early '70's !
If you're married or committed, say something about your other half. How did you meet and what sparked your interest?
I met my husband at Reuben's Disco on a rainy night, January 8th, 1985. He is Lebanese-Armenian. He walked up to me at the bar. He said in his funny accent. 'You are so beutiful you must be model" I was a little tipsy, and just giggled at him. He looked so crushed and I felt so bad that I decided to go out with him. He has been my best friend business partner and cohort for 22 years. He's the best.

About my favorite childhood toy
I was and only child. My first favorite was Patty Playdoll. She was as tall as me, had long blonde hair and bangs and looked like me. I use to imagine she was my sister. I also liked Chatty Cathy, and of Barbie. My most used toy however was a child's light board. I would draw on that thing for endless hours.
Best compliment ever given or received
My daughter had a best friend named Brenda. Her family was Mormon. Allllllllllllllllllll of her sisters got pregnant many times before their twentie's. Because Brenda was so different from her family, she spent a great deal of time at our house. I always told her that she didn't have to follow the family, that she should go to school, get an education and have her own life. She did. On a Mother's Day a few years ago, she sent me a Mother's Day card. In it she wrote. "Thank you for always telling me to live my life and for not settling for anything less than the best. My life is miraculous, and I owe it to you. You always told me I can be anything I want. You made a huge difference in my life, and I will never forget you."
