Former SF Giants Pick Traded for 10 bats

This is hilarious. You always hear the joke about a player getting traded for a bag of balls, pucks, or some footballs, but it actually happened to a former SF Giants draft pick, John Odom. He got traded to Class-A Laredo Broncos of the United League from the Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League. The terms of the trade? 10 Prairie Sticks Maple Bats, double-dipped black, 34-inch, C243 style valued at $69 each at retail.

Weird day. A plane crashes into a 50 story apartment building in New York. It's believed to be an accident and as if that wasn't enough of a bombshell, the person believed to be piloting the doomed plane was Cory Lidle, a one-time pitcher for the Oakland A's that was recently signed by the New York Yankees. RIP Cory Lidle. He was inconsistent, but when he was on, he was a brilliant pitcher.

SF Giants SS Omar Vizquel Joins the San Diego Grounds Crew

This is funny. I'm not a Giants fan, but my hat's off to the Giants' starting shortstop, Omar Vizquel for a prank he pulled in San Diego last week. The manager, Felipe Alou, gave him the day off to rest some injuries and soreness so he managed to score a grounds crew uniform for Petco Park. He was out there with the other grounds keepers after the third inning, raking the infield.

Bonds was heckled by some in the crowd of 43,767 in attendance, who came with signs that derided Bonds' accomplishments as steroid driven. One fan tossed a syringe on the field that seemed like the size of a turkey baster.

I just read that Bill King, a sports broadcaster in the Bay Area for almost 50 years has died following complications from hip surgery that he had. I'm totally stunned. The man seemed so completely ageless in his broadcasting and he's been a Bay Area staple for so long.

This is funny (and also amazing if you haven't heard about it). About a month ago, Katie Brownell, an 11 year old little leaguer in upstate New York pitched a perfect game. She not only pitched a perfect game, she struck out EVERYONE on the other team. It's an amazing feat at any level no doubt and the Baseball Hall of Fame wants her jersey, but she wasn't going to give it to them because she figured, "no, this is MY jersey!"

I guess MLB didn't want the NHL to have all the drama this winter and they're having themselves one hell of an offseason. Think of the big star power that's hop-scotchin' over the border and into the other clubhouse. When this whole offseason thing started the Yankees looked like they ran out of time to buy at any price and now they've just landed Randy Johnson and their pitching staff doesn't look as laughable anymore.
