The Thrift Box in Downtown Willow Glen is pleased to announce our Annual Art Sale, February 13-25, 2012. We'll be offering original oil paintings, watercolors, and exciting decorator pieces!

The Thrift Box, open Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm, is run by volunteers from the San Jose Auxiliary of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. All proceeds from sales are donated to the hospital to treat Bay Area children whose familiies could not otherwise afford it, and to fund other special projects at Packard
Children's Hospital.

Reading on the Ave Book Club: Out Stealing Horses

All are welcome to attend the Reading on the Avenue Book Club, which meets in the Community Room of Willow Glen Library. On Wednesday, February 22, we'll be discussing Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson.

Set in the easternmost region of Norway, Out Stealing Horses begins with an ending. Sixty-seven-year-old Trond has settled into a rustic cabin in an isolated area to live the rest of his life. A meeting with his only neighbor, however, forces him to reflect on a fateful summer from his youth...a day on which two boys went for a joy ride on "borrowed" horses; a day which marked the beginning of a series of vital losses for them both.

Morning Crane: The Yoga of 12-Step Recovery

Morning Crane Healing Arts & Fitness Center invites you to join us for Y12SR: The Yoga of 12-Step Recovery, an intensive weekend workshop led by special guest Nikki Myers of Indianapolis.

The workshop is geared for those interested in deepening understanding and application of the 12-step program and its symbiotic relationship with yoga. It is appropriate for anyone working with addictive behaviors or affected by those behaviors in others.

Y12SR will be held at Morning Crane on March 16, 6pm-9pm; March 17, 10:30am-5:30pm; and March 18, 9am-2pm. During this time, we will: explore the sources of addictive behavior; investigate yogic and 12-step principles as a foundation of recovery; discover sustainable ways for self-regulation that enhance physical, mental, and spiritual well-being; and learn how to use the tools and practices of yoga to support recovery and avoid pitfalls.

WGNA: Changes on the Avenue

The Willow Glen Neighborhood Association invites everyone to join us for an enlightening evening featuring business and community leaders who will discuss some of the changes occurring in our downtown district. Topics will include: safety on the Avenue, common area enhancements, community activities, the Willow Glen Town Square Project, coming changes and new neighbors, and preserving the "village" experience.

Our unique downtown district is an integral part of our community and offers residents over 250 retail, dining, and professional services. Steeped in history, it is important that we retain its rich heritage and distinctive characteristics. A lot is being done to serve our community in new ways and to enhance our exciting, welcoming, and vibrant downtown.

Our guest speakers will include: Hans Larsen & John Brazil (San Jose Dept of Transportation), Michael Mulcahy (SDS NexGen Partners), Alex Byer (Paja Investments), Charles Kahn (KDA, Willow Glen Town Square Architect), and Kevin Swanson (Willow Glen Business Association).
