Has anyone else heard about the proposed walking trail the City Council has approved along the San Tomas Creek? As a homeowner along this creek, I would like to find out more information about the proposal and let the City Council know I am worried.
If you know more about it, I would like to hear your thoughts. If you are concerned as well, please attend the City Council meeting on Nov 6th

Event: Early Fall BBQ at Sheldon, Mary, & David's House

It has been way too long since we last had a BBQ here at our house. We used to have many BBQs every year, but things happen and its been two years since the last time we grilled in the backyard. The world famous 1083 drink turtle has been eagerly awaiting to serve for two years and he's happy as a plastic turtle can be to have friends, family, and neighbors back again.

Event: West Nile Fogging Informational Open House

There will be an informational open house for residents of Campbell, Los Gatos, and Saratoga concerning the latest West Nile Virus outbreaks and West Nile Virus fogging. Fogging for West Nile has already been performed in areas of Los Gatos/San Jose. On Wed. Aug 22nd at 11pm, they'll be performing ground fogging an area of Campbell/Los Gatos/Saratoga.
I've detailed up a map of the approximate area that will be fogged. If you live in the area targeted for fogging, you should have already received a notice on your door.

Should Fireworks be Made Completely Illegal in CA?

Is it just me, or does it seem like Fireworks are legal again? I felt like the only person in my entire neighborhood who wasn't shooting exploding rockets up into the air. I've noticed that each year, more and more people are setting off fireworks and more and more people are setting off the variety that I'm really really not cool with... the short range exploding rockets.

Problems in San Tomas Neighborhood

We've noticed a few problems in our neighborhood recently.

- On Sunday between noon and 1 pm, someone threw an opened bottle of red Gatorade at our front door. I heard a noise but didn't realize it came from outside and didn't find the mess until later.
- Our house was also egged on a Saturday between 6 and 9 pm about 3 weeks ago.

Garden Alert: Bermuda Buttercup

Well, spring has sprung, and as I walk around my little corner of the San Tomas Neighborhood, I see a lot of Bermuda Buttercup. These are cute little things with nice green leaves and lovely, bright yellow flowers. But gardeners and homeowners beware: they are a very invasive species of weed. And if you start to see them in your yard, no matter how cute they are, I recommend you get out there and start pulling them up, root and all.

Old Recycling Bin Swap!

It's become clear that, with the new garbage and recycling system just instituted in Campbell, some people have plastic recycling bins that they are dying to get rid of. And some people had them taken away and are wishing they still had theirs!
The old plastic recycling bins are incredibly study things, useful for gardening, storage, etc. They're basically medium-sized plastic boxes without lids.

West Valley Collection and Recycling

As you may have heard, as of March there's a new waste and recycling collector for Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga. West Valley Collection and Recycling is in and Greed Valley is out. Their website alludes to some "hiccups" on their first day of service.

Sleigh Bell Lane Boutique is a two day showcase of hand crafted arts and crafts created by a group of Campbell residents in the San Tomas neighborhood. It's a great place get a unique gift item that you really can't get anywhere else. Some items that I've seen there in the past include candles, metal wire baskets, scented soaps, and novelty items.

Fire on Crockett Ave. in San Tomas Neighborhood

There was a fire on Crockett Ave. last night. I hope everyone there is ok. I heard a lot of sirens scream past our house last night. After turning on our sprinklers, I walked toward the glow in the sky with my camera. I passed by a lot of worried neighbors on my way there. I ended up on the wrong side of a fence to get a good look at what happened and it looked like half the neighborhood had already made their way there so I figured they didn't need one more person getting in the way there....more

West Nile Virus Fogging -West SJ + Campbell MONDAY Aug 14

I just heard on the radio that they've discovered additional cases of West Nile Virus in infected mosquitoes and birds in the West San Jose and Campbell area and they will be expanding the coverage area of planned fogging to kill and reduce the number of mosquitoes in the area. Some of these areas have already been flyered to inform the residents that they're getting fogged, but some areas haven't been notified yet because of the last minute expansion of the fogging zone.

Each year, the San Tomas Neighborhood Association sponsors a creek clean-up on California's Coastal Clean-up day. The neighborhood association is currently in recess, but we may join in the act nonetheless if we can get 10 volunteers to help for a couple of hours from 9:00am on Sept. 17, 2005.

Doggone Good Dates is a dog walking social club that meets weekly on Saturday mornings to give dogs and their owners a chance to exercise and socialize at Campbell Park on Gilman Ave. and Campbell Ave. It's the park that's right outside of Downtown Campbell with all the basketball courts.
