If you live in Campbell, San Jose, Saratoga or Los Gatos (the area surrounding the 95124 zip code) and received a neon green postcard from the Santa Clara County Vector Control, it's because birds with West Nile Virus have been found within 2 miles of your home. More info and a map of the area of concern can be found here.

Traps have been set for adult mosquitoes. We just received a yellow postcard from SCCVC stating that infected mosquitoes have been found. Weather permitting, they will be fogging our area beginning at 11 PM on Wednesday, August 1st. For more info, click here.

I don't think they've updated the website with info for the Open House at the Campbell Community Center if you have questions about the upcoming fogging. Check the main site for more info.

Information Open House
Campbell Community Center
Orchard Hall
1 W. Campbell Ave
Campbell, CA

Monday, July 30
7-9 PM

You can help prevent the breeding of mosquitoes by following these tips courtesy of the SCCVCD:

- Draining standing water WEEKLY. Check flowerpot saucers, buckets, leaky faucets, gutters, birdbaths, kiddie pools, etc.
- Maintain your swimming pool and spa with chlorine and filtration.
- Report neglected pools, spas, ponds or standing water in your neighborhood to the Vector Control District at (408) 918-4770 or www.sccvector.org.
- Check your doors and windows to make sure they have tight-fitting screens that are free of holes or rips.
- Take precautions to prevent mosquito bites, especially between DAWN and DUSK when mosquitoes are most active. Apply long-lasting insect repellent (the active ingredient DEET is highly effective) according to the label's instructions when outdoors.
- Apply products labeled for mosquito control to the outside of your home, screens and shrubbery.

For more tips, visit MosquitoBuzz.com.

For health information on West Nile Virus, contact the Public Health Department at (408) 885-3980.
