Social Wave 1.5 Now Coming After July 4th

This Social Wave 1.5 release has been pushed back and pushed back time after time this year due to me having a very very busy work life this year, but it looks like I finally have everything in line to finish this release that I started late last year. Social Wave v1.5 will be here shortly after July 4th. Google Base Integration a Key Part of 2.0 Release

I've been commenting about Google Base in one of the threads in the Technology Group. I really think Google Base is going to be a landmark service that will seriously shake up what people do with community based websites and I'm gearing a significant portion of the upcoming 2.0 release to take advantage of it.

SW Anniversary Party... Thoughts on how it went?

Most of everyone in this group made it to the anniversary party. How do you think it went? We've gotten some positive feedback from a number of people which was a huge relief for us. Of course as the main organizers, Mary and I get to focus on everything that didn't go right so when people started writing to us to say they really enjoyed it, it was huge.

VOLUNTEERING AS A GROUP AT KTEH

KTEH is a great way to get some public, free advertising.
We go as a group, answer the phones, wear our T-shirts.....they take some film of us and show us doing this on TV.....during the break, they thank the group by putting our name on the screen.

Interview with the Campbell Reporter Tomorrow!

The Campbell Reporter just emailed us back and I'm going to get my second interview in a year with one of their reporters. They've done two stories in the past, but both of those were more about me than they were about Social Wave. I'm hoping they finally relent and cover Social Wave instead of me this time.

Give-aways and freebies to attract new members

Sheldon presently has plastic stick-ons for give-aways, which are great!
It might be good to have some additional, low-cost items to give away at fairs, festivals, etc. (printed with Social Wave and logo, of course)
Some possible ideas are:
keychains
mousepads
keychain beer bottle openers (my personal favorite!)

Ideas to Engage New Members

Last night, Mary, Beth, Paul, and I also talked about ideas that could get some of the new members more involved. One thing that we agreed on is that getting a personal message from someone on the site helps them feel welcome and rewards them with attention so they'll be more likely to participate.

Social Wave's One Year Anniversary Party Ideas

Last night, Mary, Beth, Paul, and I met to brainstorm some ideas for Social Wave's one year anniversary party. The party will be held in Downtown Campbell in conjunction with the Sundown Cinema event for the evening of Friday, July 29th. The idea is to use the movie to add interest to the anniversary party and vice versa.

The Social Wave Manifesto

More and more people have been asking me for information about Social Wave lately to help them describe what it is to other people. A few people have even asked for the business plan. I've been rewriting the business plan to reflect changes in Social Wave's direction in the last year. Need Volunteers 4 SW Ticket Booth at Dancin on the Avenue

COOL! We just got asked if Social Wave could put together 8 volunteers plus some alternates to staff a ticket booth at Dancin on the Avenue in Willow Glen on Saturday, June 18th. As part of the arrangement, we get to display a Social Wave banner and we can hand out promo material about Social Wave while selling tickets. I don't think it'll be difficult getting 8 people together so I'd like to throw this out first to the SW core to come out, have fun, sell tickets, and promote Social Wave at a festival that drew over 35,000 people...more

In Discussion with Downtown Willow Glen to Join SW!

I've got an appointment this Friday to meet with the executive director of the Willow Glen Business and Professional Association about getting them on board with Social Wave the same way Downtown Campbell is on here ( http://downtowncampbell.com ). There are some hurdles to clear still, but so far the signs look good for us signing them on as the second Silicon Valley downtown to join Social Wave's efforts to build an information network that builds community and supports local businesses.
