Review of San Gregorio General Store
Street: Stage Rd. and Hwy 84
City: San Gregorio
Phone: 650.726.0565
Description: Serving the farming community since 1889: Saloon, seeds, cast-
iron cookware, advice, aspirin, wines (fine to rot gut), Post
Office, western and work clothing, groceries, no TV, shoat rings,
hardware, bullshit, lanterns, coal hods, books, (literature,
poetry, ecology, politics), crockery, posters, weather analysis,
toys, beeswax, piano intune, cowperson hats and boots,
international beers, cards, homemade sandwiches... Live music
on weekends. Homegrown tomatoes, garlic and apples in
season.
Review Title: From Farming Supplies to Hand Puppets
Overall Score: 8
(Overall Rating: 8, Value: 8, Fun: 10, )
My Opinion:
San Gregorio Store is one of my favorite Bay Area oddities and any out of town friend who asks to see the Pacific Coast Hwy always has to agree to a stop at the San Gregorio General Store as part of the touring bargain. At one time it was a true to life general store, but these day's it'd be more accurate to call it a farming supplies and novelties store. Inside it's kinda like Haight St. meets old time Main St. There's plenty of interesting things you can buy and if you're ever stumped for a clever gift, you'll definitely find something worth a surprised reaction here.
They serve food and it's also the town bar, but it's no saloon even though there's often music there on the weekends. In fact, one of our Social Wave favorites, Jay Howlett, plays there about once a month. Check out their live music calendar to see when he's playing. Once a year, the San Gregorio Store hosts a Coast Environment Protection Benefit concert featuring some of the Bay Areas finest local musicians raising money for environmental defense efforts.
Get some people together, pack a picnic lunch, and make a day of a trip up to the San Gregorio General store. There's plenty of beautiful beaches and coastal parks where you can enjoy the sound of waves crashing the coastline.

Review Title: once you visit, you'll be back
My Rating: Thumbs Up!
My Opinion:
ditto on the San Gregorio General Store. From the moment you step through the door onto the old, creaky wooden floor you know you're someplace special. We did much of our Christmas shopping here... from unique coloring books with beautiful line drawings of sea creatures to cool socks, to a very, er, unique guitar lamp that now graces our living room.
We love playing here.. as do many wonderful Bay Area acoustic musicians. Every weekend, 11 - 1 and 2 - 4 San Gregorio features music in its cafe area.
And if you need a cast iron skillet or an oilcloth coat, this is definitely the place!
