My Opinion:
Outdoor summer movies in downtown Campbell is something that my friends and I have talked about wanting to do for several years. We even started to get something organized to do it ourselves once, but didn't get very far. I'm glad to see this endeavor carried to completion by an organization with a similar community building vision as the efforts from my folks.
Casa's goal in producing their events isn't just to produce a little entertainment, but also to enrich people's cultural understanding. BTW, Casa's name is a little misleading. Their vision is far broader than just Mexican culture. In fact, their first two events had nothing to do with Mexican culture.
I went to the showing of the Birds, which was a movie that I probably would not have chosen to see on my own and really enjoyed it. The intelligent commentary on Alfred Hitchcock and the movie just prior to the showing was a very nice touch and helps ensure that the cultural legacy of a very important American filmmaker is not drowned out in the popularity of the big explosions of the formulaic action-romance-comedy flicks that everyone goes to see week in and week out.
They get a good blend of the community at their events and I'm looking forward to seeing Casa de la Cultura Mexica's events grow in popularity and attendance.
