As previously advertised, I'll be releasing information about planned improvement areas for the upcoming Social Wave 1.4 release to be timed around our one year anniversary party in April/May. I'll be posting plans over the course of the next week as I get my development notes organized. All are welcome to comment publicly or privately.

Privacy Features for Members

In recent months a few things have made a whole host of new privacy features an important target feature for Social Wave. First, search engines have latched onto Social Wave in a big way and second, the number of people visiting the site as guests or members has taken a sharp upward turn in recent months. The audience for content on the Social Wave site is more of a general public audience now.

Here's a list of proposed features to give our users better privacy control.
  • All members will be able to hide their member profiles with the option to allow certain members to view their profiles.
  • All members will be able to hide their profiles from search engines or guests.
  • Members hosting events will be able to approve RSVPs and show event location and contact information only to the approved RSVPs.
  • All members will have the option of including their contact information to event hosts when they RSVP to make it easier for hosts to coordinate in the event of a change of plans.
  • All members will have the option to become partially invisible to blocked users. Blocked users will not be able to contact a blocking member nor see their posts or profile.
  • Premium members will have the option of allowing anyone to contact them via the email form in their profile (including guests) to allow them to post ads or other announcements without having to expose their email address.
