Review Title: Big 5 at Campbell SUCKs
Overall Score: 4
(Overall Satisfaction: 2, Speed: 8, Quality: 6, Customer Service: 2, )

My Opinion:
I had a very bad bad experience in the Big5 store at Campbell today. My brother wanted to buy a table tennis board from Big5 at Campbell. I didn't wanted to go there to spend my money there because I had a bad experience before. I recommended my brother to go Smartmart or another location of big5, but my brother didn't want to go another location far from home.
So we rent a big van from his friend and went there. A employee asked me whether I had a truck or not. I said yes. The employee brought it with another man who was old and looked a manager or an owner. When the old man saw our car, his face was changed fearfully. He yelled, "You said you had a truck." Ok, I made a mistake to say a van instead of truck, but what is the big deal if the van is big enough to load the table tennis board. He didn't want to do anything. I was so depressed about it, and asked him whether I could try. He said, "yes, if you want." There was no problem loading the board, and we came back home with a bad mood. I'm not going there anymore..

The manager took the application, but never bothered to notify me of an interview. What a waste of my time.

Beware at Big 5 (and Home Depot). They buy the license to make things with certain model and brand name that is not the quality that you are expecting. Big 5 licenses K Swiss and Wilson brands to make tennis shoes and tennis raquets to fit a price position. But those of us who play with these brands notice a big difference. Home depot does the same thing, even creating an inferior product in the product line to fit a price position. The recently bought the Thomasville brand to make their own product with Thomasville name.

i just bought some sneakers at this Big 5. i rarely shop at these types of stores. this is probably my 2nd purchase at a Big 5 ever. i got the shoes at a great price ($30, which is the cheapest i've seen for a /decent/ pair of sneakers), regular price was $69.99. plus since i had to take the display model, they gave me an extra 10% off. there was nothing wrong with the pair i got, so that was a nice bonus. they had some other sneakers for $19.99 but they seemed to be of inferior quality. i didn't seem to get bad service, but i also didn't get really exceptional service either.

in general, i think a lot of retail stores don't go out of their way to give good customer service, mostly because they don't have to. the only places i think stand out are safeway (all the employees have to say "hi" to you) and target. it's kind of sad because Customer Service was rated one of the Top 5 hottest projected jobs of the future. we all know that's usually a joke when you call your cellular phone company, cable company, or tech support, for example. i called AT&T Wireless to ask them how to change my outgoing message and the guy couldn't tell me! i also called DirecTv to ask why they were charging me a certain fee, and the guy had no idea. the guy was nice but not very bright. i had to ask him 3 times to transfer me to someone who could answer my question.

target also sells some thomasville items.
