Reviewed: Buca di Beppo
Street: Oakridge Mall, 925 Blossom Hill · City: San Jose · Phone: 408-226-1444 · Type of Cusine: Italian ·

Description:Popular Italian food restaurant chain serving the usuals plus desserts, beer, and wine in a fun and festive environment for all ages.

Review Title: Buca a BUST! · Overall Score: 3

My Opinion: PEEE UUUUUUU, this is the most expensive family dining experience I have ever done. The food is small portions and the flavor is absent. Save your money and go to Angelo's, Tony diMaggios, hell Pizza hut has better italian food. They think a large portion serves 4 and they typically charge 25+/order for a large serving. I spent $30 and got a taste of marginal food at best. For spectacular, try Original Joes. For family dining, try Three Flames on meridian. All great values and the taste is memorable. I got better value at buffets.

Review Title: I agree that Buca Di Beppo is mediocre at best
Overall Score: 2
(Overall Satisfaction: 2, Value: 2, Quality of Food: 2, Quality of Service: 2, )

My Opinion:
Have you tried Maggiano's in Santana Row? Now that's what FAMILY style dining is all about. For a little over $25 per person you get 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 pastas, 2 entrees & 2 desserts for the entire table and if you want more of anything they gladly will give it you. I've never walked out of there with less than 4 bags of leftovers! Knocks the pants off of Buca Di Beppo AND the Employees are nice too!

Review Title: Not A Fan
Overall Score: 4
(Overall Satisfaction: 4, Value: 4, Quality of Food: 4, Quality of Service: 6, )

My Opinion:
Thank you, Anonymous, for your review of Buca! I'll eat almost anywhere except for Chili's, Olive Garden, and Buca. I just don't understand the appeal of the place. I guess it's good for large groups because it's something everyone can agree on and not be too offended by. But I can make WAY better Italian food, and being in the Bay Area, there are way too many other good restaurants of all different cuisines to try. The food is subpar (it's just bland and boring) and the service is average. And, I agree with Anonymous, it's a bit overpriced. The decor is kind of gaudy too (I think that's intended.) Try Spaghetti Factory, Al Castello, A Bellagio, Frankie Johnnie & Luigi, Mio Vicino (?), or Il Fornaio instead.

If you like Frankie, Johnny and Luigi's, here is your tip for the week. They have sister locations. Giorgios, has the same great food, even more variety, with better prices and specials. Their Sunday family special is roasted chicken combo with pizza and pasta, salad and soda. Great food and great prices.

Giorgiossanjose.com and
giorgiosmilpitas.com if you happen to be in Milpitas area.

Still my tops are Angelos (Snell and Blossom Hill) and Tony DiMaggios (Monterrey Hwy at Capitol Expressway). Veal Scallopini and Stromboli are their respective specialties.

I've been to Giorgios in Milpitas, and it's good. I'm a lot closer to the Frankie, Johnny and Luigi's in Westgate West though. There are SO many great Italian restaurants here that I really don't see why you would want to go to one as subpar as Buca.

Review Title: Mediocre food and lots of it!
My Rating: It's OK

My Opinion:
Service was just "OK". I was happy we were seated in a booth near the bar; the rest of the joint looked like it would be very noisy. This place would be good for groups, as the menu is pretty neutral and you wouldn't have to be concerned about being too loud. We had 2 additional meals from our take-home pkg which we were able to 'doctor up' to our preferred tastes.
