It's my favorite time of year again! Taxes are done and the Stanley Cup playoffs are on! San Jose is seeded as the #5 team and at least a few experts are projecting the team to go deep. Anybody know of any good playoff hockey events going on? Anyone want to get together someplace for a few playoff games?

Sheldon,

I think the Tied House, the Old Pro, Britannia Arms or any of those sports bars might be showing the games. I would love to meet up for a couple of the games.

I just got my reminder from Ticketmaster that Stanley's is open for the playoffs. Anyone been there before? It looks appealing, but then again, it'll probably be insane over there if you can even get in.

Playoffs are the best time to go to a hockey game. There is so much excitement and the fans are so great as well. I have been many times and it is the greatest experience ever. I think Hockey playoffs are so much better than any other sport playoff series out there.

YES!!! Overall, absolutely nothing beats the intensity of playoff hockey, I'm glad I've got OLN as they'll be televising quite a few playoff games & FSN has the Sharks covered. I tried getting the official tickets through Ticketmaster as soon as they went on sale but no luck, the damn ticket brokers must have a way of swallowing everything within the first nanosecond & they jack up the prices ridiculously mad.gif Count me in for a hockeyfest & I will also gladly host a small group at my place (it's a condo) on a Sat or Sun & fire up the BBQ grill (it's about time after all this sucky weather) laugh.gif

We're chatting with the Sonoma Chicken Coop to see if we can get a Social Wave deal there throughout the playoffs. They have a nice wide screen near the bar and a few other TV's set up. I'll let everyone know what comes of it.

Everyone, if you want to get together for Sharks games, Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell will give us reserved seats in front of the big flat screen to watch the game at the downstairs bar! They'll also have drink specials through any of the playoff games if you mention Social Wave. We won't have a get together for tonight's game or for Sunday's game, but we'll start rounding people up for the game on Tuesday 4/25.

RSVP for Shakrs Playoffs at Sonoma Chicken CoopEvents for the remaining games will be posted if they're necessary and as soon as game times are announced for them.

Wow, can the Sharks' penalty killing get any worse? They deserved to lose that first game.

Hi Mary, you're not a fanatic, it's everyone else who are insipid & missing out wink.gif Sharks have not allowed an even-handed goal yet this series & if both teams play penalty-free, Sharks will rule devil.gif Have you guys been watching any of the other games?

No, we haven't been watching the other games so far. Although I can easily see a time in the near future when this will start to happen. Have you been watching the others? Any recommendations as to the best match-ups to watch?

I admit I watch almost every playoff game (they're all good!) I can but don't call me a fanatic rolleyes.gif You get into it more if you can watch most of a series so if you get OLN, you can catch the rest of the EDM-DET (some conflict w/ Sharks unfortunately) & COL-DAL games. The EDM-DET series has turned out to be anything but lopsided!

OH NO! NOT OLN!

Well, I don't know what happened in that first game vs. Nashville, but game II was more like it. I hope this isn't a pattern. I don't know about the other series because I don't have time to watch them, but man the officiating has been really iffy against both teams in the SJ vs. NASH series. They make a lot of the borderline calls, but miss the big ones like kneeings and boardings.

I'm totally shocked that Colorado took it to the Stars and yeah the Edmonton win was a real interesting development. That series is going to be a lot tougher than anyone in red was expecting. Roloson has stepped up in goal for them and Edmonton seems to have streaks of being unbeatable and "unwinnable". They're so inconsistent I can't see them going much longer than a series, but I hope they can knock off Detroit so we don't have to play them if we beat Nashville.

Anyone get playoff tickets? I missed the boat each time.

Sharks Conducting Pre-Game Playoff Rally

The San Jose Sharks are conducting a pre-game rally prior to each home playoff game this postseason, beginning with their first home playoff game this Tuesday against the Nashville Predators.

The rallies are open to the public and will begin approximately two hours and fifteen minutes prior to scheduled game times. The first playoff rally will be prior to Game Three on Tuesday, April 26 from 5:15 – 7:15 PM on Autumn Street in between Santa Clara Street and St. John Street.

Activities for the first two playoff rallies will include music and a live DJ from Sounds in Motion, a performance by the Keith King BMX Stunt Show, face painting and balloon art by Dizzy Entertainment, poster making and other fun and games for the kids.

In addition, the Sharks Foundation will have a benefit beer booth with proceeds from the beer sales going to the Sharks Foundation. Corporate partners of the Sharks will also have manned sponsor booths at the rallies.

Entertainment plans for each pre-game playoff rally are subject to change and will be updated once the plans are finalized. Up to date information will be available at sjsharks.com.

This is just sad... Nashville can't even sell out a home evening playoff game. There's 2600 tickets left for game 5.

Man, if you can't sell tickets to a playoff game, there's something seriously wrong with your corporate administration......

Peter, upon your recommendation, Sheldon and I watched the end of the last EDM-DET, which went into *double overtime*. OMG!!! What a cliff-hanger!!! You're right, it can be exciting stuff. It was also very different for me, though, since I'm a new hockey fan. Watching DET and EDM bash around the rink together was very different from watching a Sharks game. The Sharks have so much more speed! I find it more exciting viewing because of the tempo of the game. (Granted, both teams were pretty tired by the end of the last DET-EDM game, but there was still a distinct difference in how the game is played).

Mary, you are a bonafide hockey pro (& fanatic) thumbsup.gif The Sharks & Predators are 2 of the younger faster teams while EDM is more of a tough grinding team & DET has a lot of older veterans. This is their 2nd double OT & EDM is ahead when nobody (except that 1 ESPN guy) gave them a real chance. COL pulled off an incredible OT win last night so hopefully the top 2 western seeds will get eliminated. Go Sharks!!!

laugh.gif Peter, I think you hit the jackpot and surpassed the level of "verbose logging", moving onto the highly more coveted level of "considerably voluble"!!! laugh.gif Congratulations!!! Must be all these hockey posts!!!

Now, as to exactly how much you have to post to reach each level.....That's a question for my other half...It's all a mystery to me. whistling.gif

Oh, by the way here's a fun photo that I took in Nashville five years ago. I caught a bunch of Predator fans walking to the arena. One of them was this boy who was taking his pet goat to the game.

Wierd stuff...

Looks like we're going to have to wait until Wednesday night to see who the Sharks are going to play....I think it depends on who wins the Anaheim-Calgary match-up.

you hockey fans are so twisted. I am glad san jose has such rabid fans but come on, football is king for getting people together and talking. Heck, we are still talking about the draft more than we talk about hockey. I think the goalie has way too much influence on a game. Even soccer doesn't give the goalie such command of the game. If the net was a little bigger and the play more orchestrated (vs Random luck), I would pick up hockey as entertainment. Hell, one guy scored last night off a push and a defensive man's foot. If San Jose ends up in the Stanley cup, and it is looking good considering the top teams being eliminated, I will probably watch a game. I am dying to try the Chicken Coop specials.

I am rooting for you shark fans. You have been so loyal. You deserve a championship right after the die hard SF Giants fans. They have been waiting the longest and usually don't have the talent to be projected a winner.

I feel like Dennis Miller, "that is just one man's opinion". I just like to get everyone stirred up. Have fun.
