Dinner Social in May - need a volunteer
Posted: May 4 2006, 11:06 AM
Greetings to the many members of the Dinner Social Club! Please rest assured that I have not abandoned the group, nor have I forgotten about our monthly outings.
Alas, I was unable to arrange a dinner social in April because my health has been somewhat poor lately. I'd like for everyone to get together in May, but I'm not entirely sure if I arrange something that I'll be fit to attend and preside over the festivities.
So I have two questions for all of you intrepid eaters:
1) Do you have any suggestions about where you'd like to eat this month?
2) Would one or two of you like to volunteer to host the May dinner social in my absence? I can post the announcement on the calendar and make the restaurant reservations, but I'm not certain that I can be at the actual event. I would need someone(s) to greet people and act as a liason with the restaurant staff on the night of the dinner (whichever night we choose).

Sorry to hear that you've been under the weather.
I wish you a speedy recovery and up and about soon.
As for the dinner issue, I won't be able to help out with that this month. I know that I'm missing out on great company and a lot of fun, but this month is very busy for me. If you need help at another time, I'll be there.
Once again, please take care and get better.

Maybe we can just do this a more relaxed way until Mary recovers. Usually, we're very organized about this. We make arrangements with the restaurant to make sure we can get accomodated, we drum people to come join us, and we remind everyone to show up. We can just pick a not so busy night, name a location, and see who shows up.
Anyone interested in trying La Pizzeria in Downtown Campbell?

Jacque, thanks very much! You're so sweet! I'm on the mend, it's just taking a while for me to get my feet back under me. It's just the ups and downs of a chronic illness.
I hope everything's going well with your work, and that things ease up a little for you next month.
Sheldon, I really like your idea. That way, you and I could show up if we're able, but it would still allow people to get together and hang out if they want. La Pizzeria looks like a really great place - I've been wanting to try it out myself. The prices are reasonable, too. Let's wait a few days and see what other people think about it.
Any comments on Sheldon's idea, anyone?

How about combine two events: Sharks hockey and dinner social. I propose we do game three at the Sonoma Chicken Coop on wednesday and watch the game with these die hard sharks fans.
Peter, Ron and I are in. Let me know if this satisfies the requirement.

I'm sorry that you're feeling unwell, Mary, and hope that you're soon in the pink.
As to Sheldon's suggestion, La Pizzeria sounds fine.
Hopefully, people will be able to come, and maybe you'll be feeling better as well

Hi everyone,
I love the idea of trying out La Pizzeria but would also be interested in a combination of a dinner and board games social. I can bring Apples to Apples and Eye to Eye (both great ice-breaker games- VERY easy to learn).
Is anyone interested?

Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for your thoughtful responses!!
Joe, the hockey socials are always dinner events as well - that's a good point! But I'd really like to have a separate outing, too, for all our gastronomic enthusiasts to try out another restaurant.
Miki! I just remembered that I promised you this next outing would be protein-rich!!! La Pizzeria is not a terribly blood-sugar-friendly kind of place. Although, I checked the menu and they do have "Insalata Della Casa" (a salad with eggs, tuna, tomato, corn, fresh mozarella, and beans) as well as two calzone pizzas (both with cheese and Italian ham) which sound promising. You get to suggest the June dinner spot, o.k.? We'll talk about it beforehand.
Meetha, I really hope you can make it to the dinner social. I know you really want to have a board game night, but I don't think that La Pizzeria is an appropriate place to have a board game night (at least, not the kind of ones that we usually hold - long and noisy). The Board Game Socials Group is a better group to set up a dinner/game night like we usually have, and Goodie's Good Eats is a perfect venue. Let's communicate soon and set one up, o.k.? My biggest concern is that I won't have the energy to host a 2-3 hour game night, and that Sheldon won't have the time to sub for me, which is why I haven't hosted one in a while.
O.k., gang! It looks like we have a general consensus on the issue of where to eat and how to do this. I'll set up an outing at La Pizzeria in the next week or two (careful not to conflict with Sharks' games!!) and I'll post it online. Then, whoever can attend can RSVP online and meet each other. Hopefully, I'll be able to join you!

Mary,
Thanks for thinking of me. The salad choice sounds like it would work.
As for June, I'll put on my thinking cap, together with Larry. Maybe we can come up with a suggestion that will work for everybody.

Looking forward to hearing about going to La Pizzeria in May.
As for June, Larry and I talked about it. We aren't real familiar with restaurants in Campbell, but were thinking that maybe Chinese would be good. The only Chinese restaurant that we knew of in Campbell was Fung Lum's, but that was closed and torn down.
There is always P.F. Changs, but that is located in Oakridge Mall. I don't know if members would think that was too far to drive.
If anyone knows of any other Chinese restaurant that would be appropriate for the Dinner Social Group, post a reply.
Anyways, that was our suggestion for June.

I need to set up a La Pizzeria evening - it's on my to-do list! I'm trying to make it so that it doesn't conflict with a Sharks playoff game (crazy, I know...), but it's hard to know the game schedule much in advance. Know that I'm keeping it in mind.
Miki, when you live with a son of Chinese/Taiwanese immigrants like I do, you learn about the best local Chinese restuarants!
I think Chinese food is a great idea - we haven't enjoyed that wth the Dinner Social Group before.
Sheldon and I really like Chef Li on Camden Avenue. You can see Sheldon's review here. I think it would be a really good place to have a dinner social - there's enough space for us, and it's not crazy busy during the week.
