Official Sharks vs. Oilers Playoffs Round 2 Thread

The hockey world has officially turned upside down in the Western Conference of the NHL. San Jose goes in as the 5th seed and one round later, the Sharks are now the top seeded team in the conference thanks to a complete sweep of upsets that knocked off all four top seeded teams.

Now the Sharks get to play the Edmonton Oilers, who seem to be transforming from hopeless underdogs to favorites in this series against the Sharks according to some experts. Bah! I still have my money on the hometown team! The Oilers were awesome against the Red Wings in the first round, but the Wings have a history of choking in the first two rounds.

Game 1's score sheet is pretty funny when you look at the Hits column. You see usual numbers of 2, 0, 3, 1, and the all of a sudden 15! That's the number of hits that Ville Niemenen had on the Oilers. WOW!

WOW!!! What more can I say, it was an ear shattering religious experience at the shark tank Big Joe was right in front of me (ok, about 20 rows down) when he scored the winning goal! GO SHARKS!!!

Yeah Peter, how are those ears feeling? I read from some commentators that it was the loudest they've ever heard the Shark Tank and I remember it being unbearably loud before in the past when I was there for playoff games. The next time I make it to a playoff game, I'm bringing earplugs after the way my ears rang when I got out of one last time.

The radio guys had a tough time getting their calls in over the noise at a few points during the night. You lucky SOB! What a game! I love Ron Wilson's quote about the 5 on 3 being like the Black Knight scene from Monty Python.

BTW, did you catch the end of the BUF-OTT game Fri night, unbelievable!!! Wish I could have caught the end of the NJ-CAR game yesterday! All 4 series are now 2-0, who would have thought!

No I didn't see the end of the BUF/OTT game. I wish I could! I barely have enough time to watch the Sharks games this month.

I couldn't believe the result of the NJ / CAR game. NJ goes ahead with less than a minute to go and CAR comes back to score on Brodeur of all people with 3 seconds left and then goes on to win it in OT. Unbelieveable!

BTW, on the lone Oilers goal last night, can anyone explain to me why it's not goalie interference when there's an Oiler player making enough contact with Toskala to make it harder for him to get up? The Sharks were getting called for merely touching Chris Mason in the last series.

3OT!!! Toskala was insane but Roloson had THE save of the day when he gloved Cheechoo's shot. Guess the Oilers deserved that win but on the bright side, they needed 3OT's to beat SJ on their best effort! BTW, game 5 tickets go on sale 10AM Friday, happy hunting! Go Sharks!

I hope tonight's game doesn't go into OT... unless of course that's what the Sharks need to tie it. That 3OT game really messed up my schedule. I thought about going back to work and listening to the game on radio, but it was just too good of a game to pass on.

You gotta wonder if the game would have gone to the Oilers in triple OT if Michalek had been on Marleau's line instead of a parade of fill ins. I hope he's good enough to go tonight. We'll be out of town for at least half of tonight's game, but we're listening on radio. I've got my fingers crossed.

O.k., last night was really painful.

I think the Sharks will get themselves into gear and win the series, but there are going to be a ton of injuries along the way. I wonder if they survive this, if they'll be able to beat Anaheim after all the physical abuse they're getting.

Tonight was worse. All I can say is "Phaneuf!"

Well, it's not time to give up yet. They have an extra day this time to regroup and if they win the next game, Game 7 is back home where they were uncharacteristically bad in tonight's game 5. They certainly have the talent to steal a game up in Edmonton.

They do look like they're imploding though. The D was pretty bad the past couple of games. Up until this point, they've been really good, but given their age, they were always pointed to as the potential weak links. Maybe they're not as ready as they looked as of late. Dion Phaneuf, the rookie of year candidate up in Calgary completely came unglued and was awful in Calgary's 7 game exit vs. the Ducks.

Looks like our D is going "Phaneuf!"

O venerable hockey gods, pls let there be a game 7...then pls let me get tickets to game 7...then pls let the sharks win game 7!!!
