West Nile Virus Fogging -West SJ + Campbell MONDAY Aug 14
Posted: Aug 12 2006, 08:32 AM
I just heard on the radio that they've discovered additional cases of West Nile Virus in infected mosquitoes and birds in the West San Jose and Campbell area and they will be expanding the coverage area of planned fogging to kill and reduce the number of mosquitoes in the area. Some of these areas have already been flyered to inform the residents that they're getting fogged, but some areas haven't been notified yet because of the last minute expansion of the fogging zone.
The area that will be fogged on Monday night at 11:00pm is predominantly northern areas of Campbell and in the areas of West San Jose that borders the northern edge of Campbell. There's more info on the County Website at

There's an updated map of the fogging area just published on their website. I've attached an enhanced version with common landmarks in red to help people figure out if they're in the fog zone.

BTW, in case it's not obvious, the area within the green borders on the attached enhanced map is the fog zone.

BTW, one more note. In case anyone's wondeirng what's involved in fogging, it's a truck driving around spraying a fine mist of insecticide in the air. If you're staying up late to spot the crop duster, you might be disappointed.

what is the legend of birds in the red boz. Is this where they have found dead birds?

The SCCGOV site is down right now, so I wasn't able to double check, but yeah I believe those are areas where they found infected birds. I assume that they were dead. The *'s are where they found infected mosquitoes.
According to the SCCGOV site, they just sprayed the Saratoga/West San Jose Area last week and reduced the mosquito population by 40-50%.

Here's another update. Apparently Silicon Valley is the hotbed of West Nile Virus in the state of California and in Santa Clara County, we're seeing 4x the incidence of the virus than last year.
Keep those swimming pools clean or drain 'em folks.
