San Jose Sharks

Will the Sharks make it past the second round of playoffs? This is how far they have gotten in the past. They have a strong team but Dallas has better defense. The Sharks are lucky to be in first place in the Pacific Division. I hope they make it past the second round.

Do you think the Sharks will stay in the lead in the Pacific through the season? I know they lost Sturm a couple of weeks ago and haven't quite been the same, but then again a lot of that had to do with Nabokov. Didn't Ron Wilson mention that he was fighting a virus the other night. If he's sick, half the team was probably sick too which would explain why they were barely awake for the game against Dallas last week.
They've got a 3 pt. lead and a game in hand. I think they'll just squeak in as the leader. They've got a good chance of drawing the Flames as their first round match-up. Now wouldn't that be an interesting turn of events?
I think they'll make it into the second round this year if they don't have to play Dallas in the first round. BTW, speaking of Dallas, what's up with Modano this year? Did he forget what a net looks like?

Whoa, that was some game last night. When the Sharks went down 0-3 to the Stars, I was ready to concede the division title and any playoff matchups between the Stars and Sharks over to the Stars. If the Sharks can get home ice, they'd have a chance against Dallas.
Dallas has been a mediocre team on the road this year and I hope that trend continues into the playoffs. I can' wait until March 28th for the game against Dallas in SJ. I'm taking Mary to that game. Anyone else going to that game?

I will be at the tank on the 23rd when the Sharks play the Red Wings. This should be a good game to watch as well.
Let's just hope the Sharks stay in first place.

Hopefully they'll have everyone but Sturm back healthy (as healthy as possible for March in the NHL) for the Wings game. Thornton's just not quite the same without Ricci on his line.

I heard the game on the radio. That game must have rocked to attend. I missed the first part of the game because I was taking a nap so when I woke up to the score being 2-0 on the Wings, I could tell you that I was still dreaming.
Wow! Now if they can only do the same favors to Dallas when I go see them on Sunday! Ricci's back, Nabokov looks like he's getting back into form, Cheechoo on some kind of weird diet, and Korolyuk actually gets to play. Wheee!
They interviewed Phil Esposito on the radio last night about his favorites for the cup this year and he said that he thought it was one of those unusual years in which there were no true favorites from the top of the ladder to the bottom. I agree. If anyone's got a chance to take it, then why not San Jose?
Well, that might be hoping pretty dearly, but hey! It doesn't hurt to dream now does it?
BTW, speaking of playoffs, anyone interested in playoff parties to watch the game on our big screen TV here?

Well, it looks like the Sharks are alone in second place after Colorado lost last night. Dallas is missing Marty Turco for four games and those are four games in which they'll play Vancouver, San Jose, and Edmonton. On top of that they're out Numminen and Zubov is questionable.
Let's hope that we can keep Dallas as bay and Vancouver finds some confidence down the last stretch of the season so they can knock Dallas out of fourth place. They've been a curiously mediocre road team this year.
Now about Colorado. Who woulda thunk they'd have cold spells like this? On paper they seem to have it all and then some. Maybe this is a sign that their GM LaCroix shouldn't be messing with their roster as much as he does every year after year. Remember their acquisition of Kasparitis a couple of years ago? That slam dunk acquisition seemed to hurt them more than it helped them, though they still won the cup that year.
Well, go Sharks. It's hear it for team chemistry.

You know, what might have been the most impressive moment of the game probably didn't make any of the highlight reels. Mary and I were sitting up in section 217 in perfect view of the ice behind the net.
Korlyuk was behind the net with the puck and one of the Dallas forwards rushed him. He held the puck and threaded it between the rushing forward's legs three times while getting checked. He had him spinning around like a dog chasing its tail. It only ended up in a weak scoring chance, but man can that guy dance 360 with the puck.

Stuart's Option Claimed
On Sunday evening, the San Jose Sharks picked up the team option on Brad Stuart's contract for the 2004-05 season. The deadline to extend the contract was 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time and the club's goal is to continue negotiating a contract with additional term for the young defenseman.
Stuart, 24, was the Sharks first round selection (3rd overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. This past campaign, he led all Sharks defensemen with 39 points (9 goals, 30 assists) during the regular season and tied for first among Sharks blueliners in playoff points with six.
The Rocky Mountain House, Alberta native also ranked third on the club in ice time for both the regular and postseason. Stuart and his fellow defensemen played a vital role in the Sharks posting the third best goals-against average in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the fifth best goals-against mark in the regular season.
By picking up the club option, Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson once again has an early start on re-signing the club's restricted free agents just as he did last summer.

Cool... so who are the FA's that the Sharks are likely to lose?
Damphouse, Harvey, Ricci... any others?
It'll hurt to lose any of the three or all of the three, but the team doesn't need any of them quite as much as it used to. My only big concern is how losing Ricci would affect Thornton though I see Cheechoo as a younger, faster, and more skilled Ricci.

Toskala, Parker, Dimitrakos Signed

I hope they keep Vincent Damphousse. He did a lot for the Sharks last season. It would be good for them to keep a veteran player.

Hey Piglet, I've been out of the hockey loop for a bit. Does it look like they've managed to avoid a strike this season, or are things touch-and-go with the players' union?

Arsnova,
No progress in latest NHL labor talks
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylc=X3oD...ov=ap&type=lgns
There is another meeting on the 17th of August..Just cross your fingers.
I am really hoping that they will be able to work things out. I do not know what I would do without a season. World Cup of Hockey starts at the end of the month but only runs until the middle of September. ESPN will be showing these games.

There needs to be an equally high impact press release put out to announce that Applied Materials will finally have to redo their ad of the guy who quits his day job to drive a Zamboni for the Sharks. I'd suggest that this time around instead of him calling out "Hey Patrick, Hey Brad" that he substitute in the name "Scott" for Brad. This will ensure that Applied Materials will have a good chance to use that same ad again for another 5 years because the Sharks will have to lose both Scott Thornton and Scott Hannan for the ad to become invalid.
Someone obviously didn't run this trade by the marketing manager at Applied Materials. Shame on San Jose!
BTW, sucks to lose three guys at once, but oh but I'm lovin the deal!
