Downtown Campbell Neighbors & Ultra Lounge Hours
Posted: Nov 4 2006, 11:47 AM
Many residents in the downtown area have noticed the steady increase in traffic and noise over the last few years as the downtown development has progressed. So far, the residents in the area have had no say in any of the development decisions which affect us.
Recently the Planning Commission okay'd a permit for the Motion Ultra Lounge which includes open hours until 2am - on weeknights! For those of use who live in the area, this means another 2-3 nights a week with little sleep. Noise from the establishment, parking which runs over into the neighborhood, and lounge patrons walking through residential streets create noise into the early morning hours in front of our houses. Please see the article in the Campbell Reporter (Oct 25th) - http://www.svcn.com/archives/campbellrepor...025/news6.shtml
My husband and I have begun an informal e-mail list and discussion group for downtown campbell residents to talk about issues related to downtown development and quality of life. Hopefully, if we act with one voice, the city will begin to listen to us. In the past, residents have gone down to City Hall and the police dept to complain individually - and we have not gotten great results. (It took two years of on-an-off complaining from residents to get the city parking lot cleaner moved from its 2am time slot.)
If you live in the downtown area, please drop us an e-mail at campbellneighbors@yahoo.com to be added to the list.
There is an attached flyer and letter to the city being dropped off on porches this weekend. Feel free to use the letter or change it to better reflect your views. If you are concerned about the new lounge hours, the letter should be in to the City Council by Nov 9th. A good neighborhood showing at the next City Council meeting (Nov 21st, 7:30 pm) would also help reinforce neighbors concerns.
There is also a petition on our porch asking the city to limit the lounge hours to 11pm on weeknights and 12am on weekends - something we thought was a reasonable compromise.
