Downtown Residents Establish Neighborhood Association
Posted: May 12 2007, 01:53 PM
Downtown Campbell residents have recently formed their own association called the Downtown Campbell Neighborhood Association (DCNA).
The organization was started by a committee of residents concerned about the growth and development of the area and its effect on the character and safety of the surrounding neighborhoods.
In late 2006, residents of Downtown Campbell formed an informational e-mail network to communicate about development issues and city meetings. In early 2007 a committee of residents created the DCNA to create a platform to voice the organization's stand on issues that affect the quality of life Downtown. Their stated goals are:
*To give residents a voice in development issues in the area.
*To promote safe neighborhoods that preserve the historic character of the area.
*To organize social events for neighbors to get to know each other.
*To promote and help support family-oriented events downtown.
*To build and maintain good relations with city officials and businesses in the area.
Currently they are in the process of building a membership base and a website for calendar postings and networking purposes. One of their goals is to help develop a plan to work on slowing traffic down on the residential streets in order to make it safer for pedestrians.
Many young families are choosing to move here to enjoy the small town atmosphere. The DCNA feels strongly that they want to ensure the safety and character of the neighborhoods and they want to continue to attract young families who will form the core of this community in the years to come.
The association schedules meetings on Thursday evenings at Orchard Valley Coffee. To find out the boundaries of the DCNA, please click here.
