Join us for dinner at Royal Taj India Cuisine in Campbell! It's a locally-owned restaurant that's garnered some good reviews online and from members of our Dinner Socials Club.

So join us for good conversation, good laughs, and way too much food! As always, all are welcome, just RSVP so I can tell the restaurant how many chairs to place around the table. We're a pretty informal, friendly bunch that meets monthly. Don't worry if you don't have a "significant other" or friend to bring with you - just come as you are. You'll make new friends before you know it.

Ok let's see what this place is all about. I've lived near this place for years, but have never tried it.

This place is good. I can't make it but enjoy! smile.gif I recommend ordering a variety of items and doing it family-style as I think the buffet is only for lunch.

A few of us can't the dinners because it's hard to make it from the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area during rush hour. How about mixing it up next time and trying Cupertino, which is a little more central for everyone? BJ's Brewery or The Outback are good places for our group to meet. I'm also open to other suggestions.

That's a good point about the location - a lot of people are rushing down from all the tech companies up there.

My one caveat is that we always try to support locally-owned restaurants through the Dinner Socials Club. If you or anyone else can think of any good locally-owned restaurants in Cupertino, I'm open to suggestions.

is BJ's a chain?

There's a Malaysian place on Saratoga Sunnyvale called Layang Layang. i heard their dinners are better than lunch. it's almost in Saratoga though. But still a straight shot down De Anza Blvd.

Plus there's got to be tons of chinese places to dine.

Yeah, BJ's is a national chain:

But Layang Layang sounds really good! Here's the entry on Yelp, which I'll link to here since the website kept shutting down my web browser:

I was also thinking of Blue Mango Thai Cuisine is San Jose:

Sheldon and I went there a couple of weeks ago, and the food was fantastic! It's on Stevens Creek Blvd near Lawrence Expwy.

Ooh, Malaysian sounds good. I rarely eat it so it'll be nice to try something different. I've been to Blue Mango and a lot of my friends like it. As a food snob, I don't eat Thai that often anymore because there are so many other cuisines I love more, but I think it's a good starter cuisine when you first start being adventurous food-wise and don't mind eating it occasionally. Blue Mango was voted best Thai restaurant in a recent Mercury News poll.

Trivia: Blue Mango used to be a very good Italian place named Villagio. It was owned by my ex-boyfriend's roommate; his parents started the business some 20 years ago but his dream was to be a pilot.

I agree w/ the difficulty of getting to Campbell from Sunnyvale during PM rush hour. Both Layang & BlueMango sounds great! Is it too late to change the venue?

Yeah, it's too late to change for this month. But let's try one of those two next month, and I'll be sure to push up the time to 6:30pm to give everyone an extra half hour to get there.

Royal Taj is right off Highway 17. I'm not sure it's actually further from north county than Saratoga is. But all the restaurants mentioned sound terrific! I'm glad we're venturing out a bit. BTW I work in southeast San Jose, but live near Campbell.

I've heard great things about Blue Mango. I went to Layang Layang for lunch and it was okay, but like I mentioned earlier, dinner is supposed to be better. Either one works for me for a dinner outing.

I've heard from people who live in that neighborhood that Layang Layang is packed every night - I don't think there's any way we'd be able to get a big table for a dinner social there without standing around and waiting forever. Let's try Blue Mango in June. If anybody has any preferred Thursdays (or no-can-do Thursdays), go ahead and post them here. We'll set a date shortly.

If anybody changes their mind and wants to join Sheldon, Marie, and me at Royal Taj tonight, come on down! We'll be there.

Thanks Mary. I usually (not the next few weeks) have vball Thu (& Tue) nights so Wed (or even Fri/Sat) would be better for me but stick w/ what's best for the majority. BTW, great game 2 last night as well!
