Ok let's see what this place is all about. I've lived near this place for years, but have never tried it.

A few of us can't the dinners because it's hard to make it from the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area during rush hour. How about mixing it up next time and trying Cupertino, which is a little more central for everyone? BJ's Brewery or The Outback are good places for our group to meet. I'm also open to other suggestions.

That's a good point about the location - a lot of people are rushing down from all the tech companies up there.
My one caveat is that we always try to support locally-owned restaurants through the Dinner Socials Club. If you or anyone else can think of any good locally-owned restaurants in Cupertino, I'm open to suggestions.
is BJ's a chain?
There's a Malaysian place on Saratoga Sunnyvale called Layang Layang. i heard their dinners are better than lunch. it's almost in Saratoga though. But still a straight shot down De Anza Blvd.
Plus there's got to be tons of chinese places to dine.

Hey Mary. Long time no see. I have to be in SF for a tradeshow, otherwise I would be there cuz I love the restaurant. Next time!

I agree w/ the difficulty of getting to Campbell from Sunnyvale during PM rush hour. Both Layang & BlueMango sounds great! Is it too late to change the venue?

Royal Taj is right off Highway 17. I'm not sure it's actually further from north county than Saratoga is. But all the restaurants mentioned sound terrific! I'm glad we're venturing out a bit. BTW I work in southeast San Jose, but live near Campbell.
I've heard great things about Blue Mango. I went to Layang Layang for lunch and it was okay, but like I mentioned earlier, dinner is supposed to be better. Either one works for me for a dinner outing.

I've heard from people who live in that neighborhood that Layang Layang is packed every night - I don't think there's any way we'd be able to get a big table for a dinner social there without standing around and waiting forever. Let's try Blue Mango in June. If anybody has any preferred Thursdays (or no-can-do Thursdays), go ahead and post them here. We'll set a date shortly.
If anybody changes their mind and wants to join Sheldon, Marie, and me at Royal Taj tonight, come on down! We'll be there.

Thanks Mary. I usually (not the next few weeks) have vball Thu (& Tue) nights so Wed (or even Fri/Sat) would be better for me but stick w/ what's best for the majority. BTW, great game 2 last night as well!
