The Best Fast Food?
Posted on May 24 2007, 10:37 AM
Well well well, as you may have heard, the famed Zagat Survey of Restaurants, Nightlife, Hotels & Attractions has now added fast food into its repertoire of reccommendations. It turns out that Wendy's post Chili finger hoax-scare and all, takes their top spot in most reputable and eatable fast food. This leads me to wonder, what do you think are your favorite large chain fast food restaurants in the Bay Area?
To keep this manageable, I've limited the choices just to national chains and to brands that are widely available in the Bay Area.
And here's a link to the Zagat Survey's summary of their Fast Food results:

The full results are available from that page too.

Wow, I'm really surprised that they added this category. I try to avoid fast food as much as possible (I eat it only a handful of times a year). I can't even eat at BK, Mickey D's or Carl's Jr. at all anymore. When I do, I feel sick within 10 minutes. I lived within walking distance of a Carl's Jr. for 4 1/2 years and never once went there. But if you're including Quizno's and Subway, I think Togo's is a decent alternative. Thank god I don't travel much -- the worst thing about it is that you have few food choices and not many good ones at that. There's nothing like good ol' home cooking on a regular basis.

Hmmm... it must be a mental thing, but there's nothing like fast food when it's really really late and you've got an all nighter or four ahead of you to get a project done. Maybe it's because sleep deprivation triggers people to be more hungry than usual. Too bad the only thing open at 2am is Jack in the Box and Del Taco.
Now speaking of the surprise about Zagat creating the fast food category, Tim Zagat was doing interviews and he admitted to including fast food to the things he was a fan of. Zagat's first fast food survey crowned Wendy's as the best chain.
One of the top rated chefs in France by the Michelin Guide has been known to say that he's eaten at restaurants sometimes and wished that he had just gone to McDonald's instead.

Fast food is NEVER my first choice. I only eat it when I'm really in a hurry and don't want to spend a lot of money, which isn't very often. And my stomach usually hurts after I eat it, which would explain why I avoid it. Sometimes I'll get a slight headache too, which further proves to me that I really shouldn't be eating junk.
I eat every 2-4 hours so I have gotten really good at making sure I plan my meals well, including cooking or planning where I want to eat if I can't cook. I can't eat large portions so I almost always have leftovers when I eat out, which is great -- that means lunch for tomorrow.

Yuck.
Of course, you know that your results are not legitimate. You didn't include the ultimate stomach-of-steel choice: that's right... Taco Bravo.

I didn't include Taco Bravo because I didn't want to start a war. I will never be able to understand the huge following that Taco Bravo enjoys. A few weeks ago I got a phone call from a prospective client who lives up the peninsula. I offered to meet him halfway to talk about a project, but when he found out I lived in Campbell he offered to come down because then he could go to Taco Bravo.
