Bill Walsh was a Bay Area native (born in Fremont), graduate of San Jose State University, and spent much of his life giving a name to the Bay Area when there wasn't much here to be known for other than computer chips. He died from leukemia today at the age of 75.

I remember having a 49ers cap with me when I was in college in Boston and a lot of people sneered at the Niners logo the way a lot of people react when they see a NY Yankees logo. You only get that kind of notoriety by winning mercilessly. Thanks Bill Walsh.

I remember seeing "the catch" on tv right when it happened.
