Review Title: Ivy Kitchen & Bath
My Rating: Thumbs Up!
My Opinion: We recently completed a basic one-for-one renovation of our kitchen and would like to give two big thumbs up to Sherida, Alan, Harold and the staff of Ivy Kitchen and Bath (408-441-1858). This small but very impressive business is located at 671 East Brokaw Road in San Jose, on the north side of Brokaw and about half a mile west of I-880. Visit their website at http://www.ivybs.com.

We initially saw their advertisement in the Mercury News and IKB was the best of four places we contacted, coming in at a reasonable mid-range price and setting up a realistic schedule.

Tear out of the old material started on a Wednesday and the job was completed to our complete satisfaction in only eight calendar days. Phenomenal!!

Throughout the process, all the workers were prompt, competent, courteous, and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each working day.

We were on the hook to buy a faucet of our liking and although Home Depot/Expo Design and Lowe’s had a lot of items to choose from, we actually ended up purchasing our faucet from the small (and almost obscure) Plumbing Gallery at 3155A S. Bascom Ave (southwest corner of Bascom and Hillsdale) in Campbell. Very knowledgeable folks, personal service, good prices, and you don’t get lost in a warehouse. If you don’t know anything about plumbing fixtures, this is the place for you.

As part of the kitchen work, we also had a new linoleum floor put in by Royal Carpet & More. They’ve done previous work for us, so please check out the separate positive review for them.

All in all, our experience with Ivy Kitchen and Bath had everything go right and we’d like to give them the strongest positive recommendation.

I think it's imperative that any person check out a service provider thoroughly before hiring them for any remodeling.

That said, I think that the most recent review of Ivy Kitchen and Bath is subjective, based solely on the reviewer's experience.

We had an absolute picture perfect renovation. We worked with Sherida, who is very knowledgeable about remodeling. Alan worked on our floor plan almost up until the day of installation, and made improvements to said plan.

We also had a brand new garbage disposal; we informed them of that, and they carefully set it aside to be reinstalled when the kitchen was put back together.

We worked with an independent flooring company, but Ivy was cognizant of the need to protect the new floor while installing the new kitchen. The schedule for installation was dovetailed around the needs of our flooring contractor.

I'm very sorry for the experience of the recent reviewer but stand by our original review. We have had nothing but glowing remarks about our new kitchen, and we had an absolute trouble-free renovation.

I am an outside observer, so you can take any or none of the following advice:

you don't need to remove any tile to get a straight edge for your mulling strips or transitions is the word you use. Someone with a grinder can take the tile back to a common edge. It is very hard to install tile incorrectly or so bad it can't be repaired with minor effort. If you need a referral, let me know.

Weather stripping a door is equally easy. Just need to cut door down and use standard or existing weather stripping. Again I can give you a referral.

Anything under $500, I use handy men I have pre-qualified. Anything over $500, I use a contractor if need be.

Contrary to the opinion that jgonian posted, I do not work for or have any vested interest in Ivy Kitchen and Bath. I am not personal friends with anyone that works there.

I was merely trying to point out that we experienced none of the problems that jgonian did, and that should be taken into consideration when making up one's mind about their work.

We did check them out with BBB and found no complaints on file. When a concern came up during the work process, it was always addressed immediately and to our complete satisfaction. We found the workers to be very competent and skilled in their fields. We did see that they were not required to have Worker's Comp insurance, but we did verify that their liability insurance was a minimum of 1 million dollars, so we knew them to be adequately covered for any situation that came up.

As I do not work outside the home, I was able to be here during the entire remodeling process. Maybe that was an advantage, as I was able to see things before they became an unsurmountable problem, and deal with them accordingly.

I believe that my kitchen speaks volumes about Ivy's work, and that is why I posted the review in the first place. I am allowing Ivy's work to speak for itself; my kitchen is a testament to that fact. I do not believe that posting a positive recommendation means that I'm speaking as a representative of the company.
