Heart of Chaos Exhibit - Downtown San Jose
Posted: Sep 4 2007, 07:55 AM
Mark your calendars for November 2nd when Heart of Chaos will host an open themed juried exhibit at South First Billiards. Though we have already done many juried exhibits, this will be our first South First Friday's exhibit in the heart of the city. The art will be juried by you! Ballads will be given upon entry to the exhibit and the winner will be chosen based upon audience votes.
We also plan to have 4 local bands and a couple dj's spinnin in between. This is a guaranteed good time, art, live music, beats and pool, does it get any better?
Details will be posted soon!

Ok, I've been wanting to ask this question for a while now for myself and for other visitors to this site who are probably wondering the same thing. What exactly is a "juried exhibit?"

Good question. To clarify a juried exhibit just means that the pieces submitted will be judged. Typically in the past when we present a juried exhibit there are two forms of entries into the exhibit by artists. We ask that one piece be submitted that would relate to the theme of the exhibit. Once the show opens we select judges from the community, who are not linked to Heart of Chaos. The judge blindly, meaning before the names of artists are posted next to the pieces, and select a winner based upon the criteria they determine. We usually have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner who receive cash prizes or gift certificates and then some honorable mentions.
Pieces that are not entered in the juried portion of the exhibit are displayed but not judged and do not have to adhere to the same theme guidelines as juried pieces. When we do a call for artists, which I will be posting soon, we post guidelines for each portion of the exhibit.
In the case of this next event, which will be titled "Uproar", the entire exhibit will be open themed and juried. Meaning all artists will be able to compete for prizes and there is no guideline for the theme of any piece. The best part about this show is that the audience will be the judge. One vote will be allowed per attendee to keep things fair.
I hope this clarifies. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

What kind of art does this exhibit take? Photographic, Sculpture, Watercolors, Oil Paintings? Or are there different categories?

The exhibit will be open to all mediums including paint of all kinds, ink, collage, photography, poetry, etc. Basically anything goes!
