I believe it's my turn to pick a book, so here are my suggestions:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream by Hunter S. Thompson

http://www.amazon.com/Fear-Loathing-Las-Ve...00440845&sr=1-1

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

http://www.amazon.com/Love-Time-Cholera-Op...00440781&sr=8-2

This is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession by Daniel J. Levitin

Can I weigh in on this?

I have been trying to get to reading "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - I could use something a little lighter after finishing the Cobra Event! biggrin.gif

I guess I have lost track, I thought it was going to be my turn this time, but since Tammy says it's hers, I would go along with Love In The Time Of Cholera.

Would be interested in knowing where in the schedule I do fit, so I can have my choice ready.

Miki

I just looked over the books we've read in the past, and the last book I chose was The Accidental in April of 2007. If you look over the list, after the book I chose in April, there was Next (Larry), On the Road (not sure who picked), Then we came to the end (again, not sure who picked), Sex, Drugs, & Cocoa Puffs (Susan), and The Cobra Event (Larry).

Based on that, I think it's really is my turn this time to choose the book.

Let me know what everyone decides.

Miki

Miki, I've been thinking it was your turn to pick a book (or offer a list of suggestions we can choose from). It's been a while since we've had a pick from you. Tammy picked "On the Road". I think you switched-out a turn with Larry at some point, which is why the order may have gotten skewed a little.

I'll let Tammy be the final arbiter - she's the boss around here. smile.gif

Just a suggestion, why doesn't everyone with a suggestion propose a book they want to read and you guys vote thru a poll on it. That way the most popular book will always be read. Ideas are what is important. Someone may not have thought of a suggestion.

In response to techvbjoe's comment, I believe that we should continue as is in order to ensure that the group is consistently exposed to a variety of tastes in book.

Going with a majority vote each time could get us locked into reading only a specific genre of books.

Regarding who's turn to choose, I believe Miki and I switched as I had already keyed on The Cobra Event while she was still mulling over some options.

I think she has something much lighter than my book in mind.

Sorry, I guess I either lost track or was just too eager. wink.gif Either way, sounds like it's Miki's turn. So, Miki, you have the floor. smile.gif

Joe, it is a good idea, except I have to agree with Larry on this one. Our book group is so small and diverse that it's a good thing for each of us to take turns making suggestions.

(...Otherwise, Larry would never get a chance to share anything as disgustingly blood-and-guts gory as "The Cobra Event" with this group of women... laugh.gif Oops! Did I say that?! tongue.gif )

No problem with shooting down my idea. It was just a suggestion. I am not even part of the group. I don't allow personal opinions in any of my groups either. I am just kidding. Knock yourself out.
