900,000+ New Jobs Last Month?

I heard on NPR the other day that the Labor Department's been reporting a net gain of 900,000 new non-farm payroll jobs last month. That's quite a rapid change of pace.

Does the jobs situation seem to be changing that much? Since I'm hiding out at home in my cave programming and doing graphics all day (and night) I don't get that good of a read on the general economic feel. I'm curious what it appears like to everyone else.

Democratic supporters have been pointing out that many of those jobs are low paying jobs of poor quality. Anyone know of some data to back-up this claim? In the movie Super Size Me, that we picked for the last movie outing, the producer said that fast food jobs have recently been categorized as manufacturing jobs. Wow, is this true?

Hi, kids!
All I can say f'sure is that commute traffic seems to be getting worse, and that prob'ly means more folks are working (or getting up early to look for a job...?).

I can't say this reassures me about the competence of the current administration in any way... seems to me there's lotsa stuff they don't seem to have figgered out at all, and they'd like to take credit if things look a little better. (forgive me gettin' in a little jab here, but I lived through the Vietnam years, andsaw this country torn apart by other stonewalling, deceitful Administrations... seems most of those lessons were forgotten so quickly!) I still can't get it into my head that the moral outrage of sending kids off to die for some questionable agenda equates at all to the last Whitehouse tenant gettin' a BJ under the desk, but I know there'd be lotsa righteous disagreement about that. OK to kill, but not to hanky-panky. Gettin' rid of Dubya won't fix all our woes, but it's a start... go vote, dammit.

My own (self-employed) job situation has improved a little in the last year, but I know lotsa folks who are still struggling.
gettin' down off the soapbox now, Uncle Rhythm

I've heard a couple of interviews with Joesph Wilson, the husband of the CIA agent who was outed to the press. He's campaigning for Kerry these days as a non-partisan and one of the reasons why he came out with his Washington insider expose book was because he wanted to make sure that Bush ran on his real record.

Wilson's is like what, the fourth book from an insider to come out against his old administration? Has there been such a rash of high level betrayals in recent history.

Kerry's numbers have not risen much, but there's one stat that Wilson cited that I like a lot. It's a Bush stat. His campaign coffer was at 200 million. He's spent around 130 million only to go down in the polls.

I agree, outsting Bush from office won't fix things in itself, but it's a good start. I can't imagine that we'll have any credibility in international relations until we have a leader without the baggage that Bush is packing. For Halloween this year I may go as "4 more years of W."
