US premiere of "Honk You Very Much" (public event)
The US premiere of the Olivier Asselin film “Honk You Very Much” - a comedy musical documentary - will be at The Pacific Cultural Center on Friday, March 7 at 7pm. The film features the annual music festival in Somerville that brings together music and activism in a radical celebration. The evening will also show the film “Auto Re-Vision” and performances by Santa Cruz Trash Orchestra and surprise guests.
The event is a fundraiser to send the Santa Cruz Trash Orchestra to the first Honk Fest West in Seattle at the end of March. Trash Orchestra, a local favorite, is a marching percussion band – a bone-shaking recycled orchestra that makes percussion on tuned cans, hubcaps, barrels, drums, pieces of sheet metal, and homemade oddities.
The music of Honk Fest is acoustic and mobile, with inspiration from folk traditions. The “honkers” honk for some of the same reasons motorists honk their horns: to arouse fellow travelers, to warn of danger, to celebrate milestones, and to just plain have fun. For more info about Honk Fest or Honk Fest West, visit http://www.honkfest.org/.
Tickets will be available at the door for a $10 donation. For more event info or to make an online donation, http://www.trashorchestra.org/.
