Worst Drink On The Planet?
Posted: Apr 26 2008, 02:16 PM
When I saw the headline, I thought it had to be soda, which I think is inherently evil (it has NO nutritional value -- it probably has negative nutritional value -- and I just don't like the taste after not drinking it for 10 years). Of course, I totally forgot about mixed concoctions at places like Starbucks, Baskin Robbins and even Jamba, which easily run from 500 to 1000 calories each.
Are you ready for this?
In a Men’s Health article, authors David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding say Baskin Robbins' 32-ounce Heath Shake is twice as bad as anything they have seen in years of research. “Instead of giving Socrates hemlock, they should have just forced him to drink one of these,” they write.
At 2,300 calories, the drink is “a tower of nutritional insanity”. The ingredients include:
Methyl paraben, propylene glycol, polysorbate 80: You’d need a degree in chemical engineering just to have a shot at cracking this brain-freezing code. All told, the list of ingredients runs seven inches and 73 ingredients long.
I’ve learned that anything you can’t easily pronounce is most likely something that’s bad for you.
The authors write:
To give you some perspective, slurping up one 32-ounce Heath Shake is the caloric equivalent of eating 12 Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the saturated fat equivalent of scarfing 60 slices of bacon, and will give you the same sugar rush as working your way through 13 Haagen Dazs Vanilla and Almond ice cream bars.
I would definitely stay away from this drink. According to the article, it will be discontinued at the end of May.
If you’re interested in nutrition and what foods to eat as well as avoid (the saltiest foods, etc.), this blog is pretty interesting. At 1,179 calories, Chipotle’s Mexican Grilled Chicken Burrito wins the dubious distinction of Worst Mexican Entrée in the list of The 20 Worst Foods in America.

I was surprised to see this after writing the following post about Chipotle and how their ingredients are supposedly quite healthy.

the all time bad drink to me, and it is very popular, is red bull. I can't believe people pay over a dollar for this drink. It is so popular that trucks deliver it (only RB) all over the valley. taste like vomit and antifreeze. Yuch!
