Postage Goes Up to 42¢ May 12th
Posted: May 5 2008, 01:20 AM
Postage goes up to 42¢ in a week, Monday, May 12th. This is an increase of 1¢ since the last price hike about a year ago. It's a good time to stock up on Forever Stamps. Forever Stamps are so named because you pay the current price for them (41¢ until May 12th) and can use them for first class postage forever, no matter how much the cost goes up.

What with the price of gas and diesel I wonder how long the post office can keep the price at 41¢?
I am not a post office basher -- I think that the price and service is pretty good. I do believe in less government, and I am sure that if the mail was a private business with competition price would be better -- but that ain't going to happen, and what we have is pretty good!

I agree with Dana (Stone) regarding the value of the U.S. Postal Service. I have always been impressed with the service there. Many a time I have mailed a letter in the evening and it was delivered to another city the very next day! I always preferred USPS over UPS. And yes, my kudos for the post office was formed before all of my three brothers started working there. ;-) Too bad that the post office has to deal with all of that subsidized junk mail.

I agree, the post office is very reliable. I don't have a need to use UPS or FedEx much. I've been sending letters for 20 years and if it's in the U.S., they're usually delivered within 1-2 days. I remember there was a big storm in the Florida region a few years back so delivery was affected, but it wasn't just the USPS, it was everyone.
You still have til 12:59 pm tonight to stock up on Forever Stamps and save a little, like these folks.

At the current rate of $0.01 savings on each stamp, I don't think it's worth it unless you use a lot of stamps.
