World Fair Trade Day
Posted on May 11 2008, 02:05 PM
Yesterday was World Fair Trade Day. I don't think this was widely publicized, and since every day has been claimed by some group (Don't Buy Gas Today Day, anyone?), these days have sort of lost their meaning. I still think it's important to draw awareness to fair trade, which is the point of these days anyway. Here are a couple of fair trade sources I'm aware of. Please post others I've missed.
The Hunger Site

You can choose which site gets the proceeds -- my fave is the rainforest.
Choose from:
The Breast Cancer Site
The Hunger Site
The Child Health Site
The Literacy Site
The Rainforest Site
The Animal Rescue Site
Gaiam
Health & wellness, sustainable living and personal development products -- click on the fair trade link below:

No Sweat
Union-made footwear & casual clothing
Independent trade union members in the US, Canada, and the developing world.
From the website, "We believe that the only viable response to globalization is a global labor movement."
I've bought a few items and they are good quality and reasonably priced. I was pleasantly surprised since I don't like buying clothes over the internet since I can't try them on first.

World of Good
I don't see anything for sale here but World of Good provides free trade items too. I bought one of their purses at the Aveda salon (http://nirvanasalon.com/) in Los Gatos. I've also seen their items (mostly jewelry) at Kepler's Books & Magazines (http://www.keplers.com/) in Menlo Park. I'm sure there are similiar stores that carry these items throughout the Bay Area.
