2008 Silicon Valley Duck Race at Vasona Park (public event)
This is a quirky but clever way to raise money for charity: on July 22 at 1pm, 10,000 individually numbered rubber ducks will be dumped into Vasona Lake, where they'll all race/float to the finish line. Adopt a duck, and if you hold the winning duck's number you'll win a prize. There will be a chance to win $1,000,000 or one of over $15,000 in prizes. The more ducks you adopt, the more chances you have to win.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit charity (and you get to select which one when you adopt a duck), including Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley, San Jose Family Shelter's Family Supportive Housing, Beginning Steps to Independence, Diabetes Society, Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center Preschool, San Jose Chamber of Commerce Heart Walk Team, Teen and Family Counseling Center, Hillel of Silicon Valley, and Alpha Epsilon Pi.
The festival, with food and games, will begin at 11am. The race begins at 1pm. Winners will be announced directly after the race.
