Don't Forget To Vote Tuesday, June 3, 2008

I haven't seen any discussion on Tuesday's upcoming election. This election is expected to have a record low turnout. Please help prove that prediction wrong. The propaganda I receive is in consensus with voting No on 98 and Yes on 99.

No 98 Landlords' Scheme
Yes 99 Protects Homes

www.No98Yes99.com

A broad coalition of groups including AARP, League of Women Voters of California, California Professional Firefighters, California Teachers Association, Center for Biological Diversity, CREDO Action from Working Assets, Environmental Defense, National Wildlife Federation, and hundreds of other organizations who don't normally agree on the issues - all OPPOSE Prop. 98. See the full list here:
http://www.noprop98.org/go/our-coalition/we-oppose-prop.-98/

In an email appeal by CREDO Action’s Activism Manager Will Easton writes:

Wealthy landlords are counting on low turnout to help pass a deceptive measure—Prop. 98. Prop. 98 erodes environmental laws and regulations including air and water quality and natural resource protections, eliminates renter protections and rent control and destroys land-use planning laws.

While promoted deceptively as a "pro-homeowner" initiative, Prop. 98 is actually part of the right-wing agenda to make it hard to enforce environmental laws that most homeowners in California support.

98 is backed by wealthy apartment and mobile home park owners.

The state is broke but we can afford two primary elections. Why didn't California just move its whole primary to the new date? There was nothing that could not wait till fall. It is really stupid to have two iterations when we are going to be 15 billion in debt. Didn't Gray Davis get fired for being 8-9 billion in arears and asking for a bond issue. Arnold came in and asked for 11 billion in bonds on the same budget. Wasn't arnold supposed to solve the problem, namely " open the books". Cutting social services sure has him heading downhill as he tries to make up the budget off the poor while we build 20 million dollar libraries in the richest neighborhoods. We also need to give tax breaks to the people who have owned their house for twenty years because we know they didn't profit enough. Next they will ask the poor to gamble more on the lottery, oh sorry they already are doing that. What a country!

Hey, at least our new pres will be better than the incumbent. He set the bar LOW. Ahnold's popularity has been taking a beating. But I agree, what a waste of money on an election with poor voter turnout. I couldn't even find election results online at the Merc. Good thing I subscribe to the paper version so I could see the results. You can't totally blame Ahnold though -- he can't change the state of our economy. There are a lot of factors working against him. If more people actually got involved in our government (i.e. voting and taking an active role in decision-making, instead of being passive and ignorant), we might actually get more done.

This is kinda late, but did anyone else get a bunch of spam encouraging you to vote YES on 98? I got a different pro-98 newsletter about once a week for the past two months. Right away I figured it had to be fishy. It looked like there was too much money standing behind that campaign to be really done in my interest.

Anywhoo... did 98 or 99 pass? I was out of town and unable to vote this time around.

We had record turnout in our first primary. Worst ever on our second. This is the first time I remember having to vote three times (third will be in November) and WHY NOT BLAME ARNOLD, he can push for one primary just like the rest of the flakes we have in government. He took over for a good governor who already knew what a naive Arnold would not acknowledge: there is very little latitude as long as prop 13 favors land owners who have held their property. They get to pay half the price for services the rest of us have to support. He is driving us more into debt, this year $15 billion. All the blame is on Arnold as he came in as a reformer during a downturn. He said he could make it better: $8 billion to 15 billion deficit spending. I feel better, how about you?

Hey, at least our new pres will be better than the incumbent.

Yes anyone in office will better than the last president. He was an idiot, especially hearing what his original press secretary had to say "stubborn, unable to admit fault, changes criteria to suit his needs". But before I would ever vote for a rookie in national politics, who thinks we should talk to IRAN, I would rather vote for the man who should really be a democrat, John McCain.

We had a chance to renew our most successful presidency in our lives(elect Clinton with the ex president as a consultant). Positive budgets, lowest unemployment, positive growth in the economy, record low interest rates, and listen people, cheap gas. Who would not want that again.... What is the matter with those backwood states. Clinton won every state with 100 delegates at stake except Illinois (his home state), and N Carolina (105). Clinton won the bay area by 16 pts, won the state by 10 pts, doesn't anyone listen to California, the most successful economy in the world?

The next four years will almost be impossible to negotiate and the stupid democratic party wants to throw our least experienced representative in there, UNBELIEVABLE! Pelosi, Feistein, Brown, Brown, 98 other senators are more qualified. This man is oblivious to his church for twenty years now. I go maybe twice a year to my church and I know where they stand. They hate gays and abortion. They love the United States and don't see conspiracies from 9/11 to racial separatism. (They are naive also). I can tell you what happens every week. Got it memorized. I can do the sermon "and with you".

Stupid democratic party. I wish there was a third choice. There are people really hurting.
