Submit Movie Picks for Sundown Cinema's 2009 Finale!

We've gone through three great weeks of Sundown Cinema and now that we've got the routine ironed out, it's time to start our call for suggestions for the Sundown Cinema 2009 finale! By tradition, the last movie of each year is one picked from titles suggested by the fans of Sundown Cinema.

You may submit your suggestions in person by writing in your suggestions on the Sundown Cinema movie suggestions clipboard at the events or submit up to three movie picks by posting your suggestions to this announcement thread. Just click on the Add Comment link below to open up a reply window.

We'll announce the finalists before our August 7th showing of Grease and you'll then get a chance to cast your votes online for the winner. Voting will be held open for two weeks and the finale pick will be revealed at our August 21st showing of Legend of Drunken Master.

There are a few requirements that the final selection has to meet. Because Sundown Cinema is held in a very public area, we can't show anything with graphic violence, excessive swearing, or nudity. That doesn't mean all movies that might break the rules are out though. In many cases, there are "cleaned up" versions of movies that were edited for screening in public places.

The last stipulation is that the movie has to be available to us through our licensing distributor. If we can't buy a license to show the movie, we can't show it.

Seeing that you and Jim have taken over the Sundown Cinema -- and doing a very good job -- I suggest "Revenge of the Nerds"! [And I mean Nerds as a compliment like 'geek' not in the bad 'nerd' context]

I think that the 1960 version of "The Time Machine" would be an AWESOME movie to watch. Its old, yes, BUT it still has amazing handcrafted special effects, a great message and that wonderful 60's sci-fi feel that just cannot be duplicated. Good fun all around! biggrin.gif

The Time Machine is a great one!

I also think The Princess Bride or Heaven Can Wait would be good.

I think the original "The Odd Couple" (Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau) would be a great draw. thumbsup.gif
The Princess Bride also gets my vote.

I do second Labyrinth.

Princess Bride is most excellent, but might have to be audience participation... hard for many to resist.

For outdoor/ all-around entertaining movie my no. 1 pick is:
"My Blue Heaven" PG-13; Calif. locations; priceless dance scenes; slick & funny acting by a host of talented actors. (Steve Martin version)
Close second:
"Shot In the Dark" PG rated his best movie. but any of the original Peter Sellers' versions.
Third:
"Foul Play" PG S.F. locations; great music; top comedy, well-acted. Highly-nominated film.

How is Rocky Horror Picture Show? I know that the movie has a big following -- and is pretty tame -- is it OK for a general audience?

We could well sell a lot of popcorn if we screen Rocky Horror Picture Show. wink.gif

Uh, but as for the tame part... it all depends on what the audience does and it seems that it's not the suspenseful plot that makes Rocky Horror an experience.
