Enforcement of 72-Hour Neighborhood Parking Resumes May 3

The City of Monterey's Parking Division will reinstate 72 hour parking enforcement in neighborhoods starting Monday, May 3. Enforcement was suspended due to the Covid-19 shelter in place order.

City staff have had multiple complaints and requests to start enforcing the restrictions. The related City Code section is: MCC 20-72: "No person who owns or has possession, custody or control of any vehicle shall park such vehicle upon any street or alley for more than a consecutive period of 72 hours."

The highly anticipated anime series, Way of the Househusband, is now on Netflix with 5 episodes, and Current Comics has all four volumes of the manga in stock. (Volume 5 is coming on May 18.)

The manga is about Tatsu, an infamous and feared Yakuza boss (a.k.a. “The Immortal Dragon”), who trades in that life to become a househusband to support his graphic designer wife, but who still has occasional encounters with former associates and rivals from his Yakuza days. The series won Best Humor at the 2020 Eisner Awards.

Nicholas creates beautiful portraits and images of events using handwritten words that are relevant to the subject. Come and support this young, up-and-coming artist and purchase a print of one of his distinctive, timely works. Nicholas will appear at Venture Gallery on May 15, 12pm-2pm - all are welcome to stop by and speak with him about his art.

Get out doors and celebrate Earth and Arbor day this month!

The Campbell Youth Commission and Parks & Recreation Commission are partnering to bring you an extra special Earth and Arbor day celebration this year! Bring your families downtown to locate some of our unique trees and features. If you can correctly guess their locations, you will win a gift card to The Campbell Creamery!

How to Participate

  • On April 22nd, we will share a map and photos of unique trees and features in downtown Campbell

  • Print these pages or look at them on your phone as you walk around downtown and try to locate these spots with your family

  • When you find a tree or feature, match it with the letters on the map!

  • Bring your answers to the Campbell Creamery on April 30th between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The first 20 people to have at least 5 correct matches will be given a $5 gift certificate to the Campbell Creamery!

Middlebury Institute for International Studies presents How the Blue Economy Can Help Solve the Climate Crisis, an online panel discussion on Thursday, April 29 at 12:30pm. This discussion is free and open to the public - advance registration is required.

As part of the Center for the Blue Economy’s 10-year anniversary celebrations, join this discussion with innovative leaders in the field to learn how key blue economy sectors are at the forefront of confronting the climate challenge. The “blue economy” comprises the economic activities that create sustainable wealth from the world’s oceans and coasts.

The panel discussion will be led by Dr. Charles Colgan, Director of Research at the Center for the Blue Economy. As time allows, questions will be taken from the audience.

Comanche Cellars is hosting a dumpling and wine party on Zoom on Tuesday, May 4 at 6pm. While you sip our wines from the comfort of your own home, the talented Emily Lippe will teach you how to fold and cook dumplings.

Fee is $80 and includes a 30-piece make-your-own dumpling kit (choice of Thai chicken basil dumplings or pork chive dumplings) and two bottles of curated wine. Monterey Public Library Friends and Foundation is holding a Used Book Grab Bag Sale on Saturday, April 24, 11am-2pm, on the back patio of Monterey Public Library, located at 625 Pacific Street in Downtown Old Monterey. All funds raised will be used to purchase and catalog new library materials.

They have the bag for you, and you get to fill it yourself, choosing from a few select genres: fiction, science fiction/fantasy, mystery, history, biography, and children’s.

Each year, the Monterey Museum of Art partners with the Weston Scholarship Competition to celebrate the best of traditional black and white photography by high school and college students in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
