New Winter Cocktail Menu at Montrio Bistro

Posted on November 30th, 2020 by Montrio

Before a team of devious marketing executives unleashed pumpkin spice on the masses, America once enjoyed a wide range of winter flavors in its holiday glasses, cups, and mugs. From mulled wine and hot cider to boozy eggnog and velvety hot chocolate, holiday drinks told a story and comforted us with warm memories.

This season, Montrio Bistro is unveiling a new winter drink menu starting with bold flavors and tales from the past! The offerings begin with a nod to "The Piña Colada Song,” with If You’re Not Into Yoga, a cocktail which combines Hamilton Demerara rum, Fernet Branca, Elemakule Tiki bitters, pineapple, lemongrass, Noosa coconut yogurt, Fassionola syrup, coconut water, and fresh orange.

Or you can try In Spain In The Membrane, a cocktail which includes Maré Spanish gin, Italicus Rosolio Di Bergamotto, Don Ciccio and Figli Finocchieto, Suze Saveur d’autrefois, Bitter Truth celery bitters, rosemary-infused olive oil, and green Chartreuse dust.

Montrio Bistro is located at 414 Calle Principal in Downtown Old Monterey and is now open for outdoor dining and take-out.

Cult Taco Is Closed for the Winter

Posted on November 30th, 2020 by Cult Taco

Following service on Sunday, November 29, Cult Taco, located at 481 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey, will be taking a pause this winter. As with so many downtown Monterey businesses, we've been crippled by the impacts of Covid-19. We look forward to a day when we can once again gather and celebrate on Alvarado Street.

We don’t know what the future has in store, but we remain hopeful to bring a re-imagined dining experience to Monterey in 2021. Until then, we hope you will join us at Cultura Comida y Bebida in Carmel - where some of your Cult Taco favorites will be made available in the interim.

We want to thank our wonderful teammates, return guests, and community for all your love and support.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay hopeful,
Team Cult Taco

City of Monterey staff have worked diligently to prepare the big tree on the lawn of Colton Hall for the holiday season with lights and other ornaments. While our customary tree lighting event won't happen this year because of the pandemic, there's still an opportunity to share in the spirit of the holidays and enjoy the outdoor decorations. Beginning December 1, the tree will be lit each night until the end of 2020. We hope you can stop by and enjoy the beautiful sight!

Colton Hall Lawn is located at 570 Pacific Street in Downtown Old Monterey.

Monterey Transportation Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan: Community Meeting

Posted on November 28th, 2020 by lighthouseave

Let's plan for sea level rise in Monterey! The City of Monterey is hosting a community meeting online to discuss the Transportation Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan on Monday, December 8 at 7pm during the regular Planning Commission Meeting. The program will include: a summary of previous sea level rise studies and outreach efforts, an introduction to the three adaptation strategies, and the gathering of community input.

Three strategies have already been identified to keep Monterey moving in the face of sea level rise:

1. Elevate the Recreation Trail into a sea wall or protect it behind a sea wall.

2. Elevate Del Monte Avenue into a viaduct with ocean water flowing underneath.

3. Move Recreation Trail and Del Monte Avenue traffic to Pearl and North Fremont Streets with enhancements made to these streets.

The draft of the Transportation Adaptation Plan is available for viewing here.

All Monterey residents are welcome at the meeting. To participate, please log in to the Zoom meeting (details on the second page of this press release) or you can view without participating on YouTube.

Blue Line Pizza has a Gift Card Deal for the Holidays!

Posted on November 26th, 2020 by BlueLinePizza

If you like pizza, you'll love this holiday deal from Blue Line Pizza! From now until the end of the year, $50 gift cards are 20% off!

It's only $40 for $50 worth of pizza! You can get them in person at the restaurant or you can even order them online for a no-contact curbside pick-up.

To order online, just go to www.bluelinepizza.com and choose the location you wish to pick up the cards from. The gift cards are on the regular pizza menu so you'll place your gift card order the same way you would order a pizza on the Blue Line Pizza website.

If you choose curbside pick-up, they'll drop off your cards in your car when you pull up and let them know that you're there. If you want your card(s) sent in the mail, you just need to send them an email to let them know the address to mail the cards to.

It has never been so easy to give the gift of (awesome) pizza!

As you probably know, Santa Clara County's Covid-19 risk status was changed from Moderate (Orange) to Widespread (Purple) on November 16 by an order of Santa Clara County's Public Health Department. Until recently, Santa Clara County had been looking like quite the success story of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy risk framework that's being used by the State of California. We had low infection counts and high testing rates that allowed us to progressively do a little more every month or so.

Then November hit. The infection count not only started going the wrong direction, but accelerated so fast in the wrong direction that the Santa Clara County Public Health Department skipped the formality of allowing everyone to have two weeks to turn things around before dropping back another tier. We were scheduled to go from Orange (Tier 3) to Red (Tier 2). Instead, we skipped right over the Red level and went straight back to the most restrictive level (Purple).

What exactly does going from Orange to Purple mean for places like Downtown Campbell?

  • No indoor dining.
  • No indoor entertainment venues.
  • No indoor fitness classes or gyms.
  • Bars can only operate as restaurants with alcohol and not as outdoor bars.
  • Retail stores have a maximum capacity limit.

For the most part, things didn't change as much as one might fear. This is because California's risk framework had been adjusted repeatedly to allow other types of services to continue operating at the more restrictive levels as the risks of certain types of activities were judged to be not as great as initially thought once safety mitigations were enacted.

Originally, barbershops, salons, massage, and esthetician services could not be done at the Purple Tier. That changed first for barbershops and salons and was later also changed for personal services such as massage and estheticians.

There are limits to the number of people who are allowed to be shopping inside a retail store at any given time, but let's be frank. When we're talking about small retailers, most were seldom ever in little danger of exceeding their current capacity limits even in normal times.

This means that most of what you would want to access is still available. You can do all of the following under our current Purple level of risk:

  • Dine outdoors
  • Order take-out and order craft cocktails to go with it
  • Shop at a retail store or order something for curbside pick-up
  • Get a massage, a facial, a wax job, or a haircut

On November 21, 2020 there was an additional limited stay-at-home order issued by...Read More
