Posted on August 31st, 2020 by lighthouseave

The City of Monterey has announced the temporary closure of all beaches in Monterey, September 4-7, 2020. Only water activities and ocean access are permitted. Beach use is not permitted. Violators subject to fines.

Labor Day Weekend has historically drawn large crowds to the Monterey Bay Area. Anticipating a high volume of beachgoers in the region and overcrowding on the beaches, the City of Monterey has decided to close beaches to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Water activities are allowed. This means that activities such as swimming, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, and kayaking are permitted. The beach may only be used to provide access to the ocean.

Beach use is not allowed. This prohibits groups, walking, jogging, sunbathing, picnicking, and sitting at all beaches in Monterey.

Let's get to 80% Campbell! Fill out your 2020 Census today at http://my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to respond to the 2020 Census. If you live in other cities, this message is for you too. We need to get as complete of a response from Santa Clara County as possible to maintain or improve current funding levels.

California's Covid-19 re-opening guidelines for businesses have been updated and now reorganized into four risk level tiers that are expected to remain stable. Under the revised system, restrictions have been loosened to allow barber shops and hair salons to re-open with modifications.

The restrictions have only been loosened for hair salons and barber shops. Other beauty, wellness, and fitness services can still only be performed in outdoor settings until we reach a lower risk tier.

Santa Clara County is currently at Tier-4 (Widespread), but we're not too far away from dropping down into Tier-3 (Restricted). After we all lost discipline for a few months, we've been doing a much better job of keeping the infection rates trending the right direction and if we can keep being careful for a few more weeks, we might be able to drop into Tier-3 by the end of September.

Thank you to all of you who have been diligent about wearing masks, avoiding risky activities, and maintaining social distance.

What Would Tier 3 Mean

Tier 3 would be huge. Tier 3 would mean skin care, massage, and fitness studios can resume at least some indoor services again and restaurants will be allowed to offer limited indoor seating.

The Blueprint for a Safer Economy

If you'd like to learn more about the various risk tiers and what that means for our businesses, take a look at the newly released Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

What to Expect at Salons

First, please remember that salons and barber shops have been mostly closed for many months and there may be some hiccups as everyone gets used to returning to a more normal work environment under completely abnormal conditions. Then also keep in mind that as much as we want to just enjoy what simple luxuries we're able to have, things are not normal. Everyone will be learning how to operate their businesses differently from what they were used to back in March.

Hours may be erratic, especially in the initial weeks. Nobody really knows how much demand they need to fill so expect hours to change from week to week for a while until things stabilize. Some places might take some time to return to full staffing or may not be able to offer some services.

You may be asked to take a temperature check and to wash your hands upon arriving. Please come alone. You will need to wait outside until your appointment is up. Of course, you will need to wear a mask.

Please also call ahead to schedule your appointment. Demand is likely to be high in the first weeks so there may not be any room for you if you decide to just walk in.
