Seeking Donations for a YWCA Makeover Project

Posted on January 20th, 2016 by lighthouseave

Carpets & Floors in the Lighthouse District is seeking donations for a YWCA makeover project! This is a picture of what the lobby of the YWCA’s domestic violence clinic offices looked like originally. Carpets and Floors has teamed up with Michelle Pheasant Designs to transform it, as the appearance of a room effects emotions and comfort levels, and it's important for scared children and mothers fleeing domestic violence to be reassured by a warm, welcoming space.

Using Carpets & Floors resources and engaging others in the design community to give, they've been able to get all of the necessary labor donated and most of the materials to do the makeover. However, they still need to purchase about $2,500 worth of goods. Carpets & Floors is going ahead with the project with the belief that more help will develop so they can completely remake the lobby. You can help them make a difference by giving a donation through Crowdrise. Crowdrise is a secure way to insure yourself that your funds go directly to making over the Y’s lobby. Just go to https://crowdrise.com/2015DFADMontereyCA. If you have questions, please email kathie@carpetsandfloor.com.

Coat Drive for the Homeless at On The Beach and Sunshine Freestyle

Posted on January 12th, 2016 by lighthouseave

Local residents Rose and David Eaton have organized a grassroots effort to help the homeless in Monterey! If you have a warm jacket you don't use anymore, please drop it off in the designated box at On The Beach or Sunshine Freestyle in the Lighthouse District, or at All Saints' Day School in Carmel. They are especially in need of waterproof jackets with hoods. Rose and David will make sure your jacket goes to someone in need of warmth this winter. To learn more, watch KION's news piece on the effort.

Congratulations to former Monterey County Supervisor Marc Del Piero, who was honored with a Reel Vision Award by the Lighthouse District's own Monterey County Film Commission in December 2015. When the idea of creating a Monterey County Film Commission was being considered by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors in 1987, it was then-Supervisor Marc Del Piero—along with Supervisor Sam Karas—who championed the cause. They hoped the county would benefit from the economic boost that on-location film production could bring to the area. Little did they know that by 2015 film productions would have meant more than $92 million in economic impact for Monterey County’s communities.

Pictured with Marc Del Piero is MCFC Board President Jeff Clark and MCFC Board Chair Gloria Gargiulo at the awards ceremony.

Congratulations to the Lighthouse District's own wedding event professionals, A Sparkling Event wedding planning, Manuel Ortega Photography, and Chic Event Rentals for winning WeddingWire Couples' Choice Awards for 2016! The WeddingWire Couples' Choice Awards recognizes the top five percent of local wedding professionals from the WeddingWire Network who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism. Winners of the award are determined by recent reviews from over a million WeddingWire newlyweds.

Sunset Magazine did an extensive amount of research into a number of communities in the Western states with good reputations and Campbell is on their map of the best of the best for 2015. We'd like to congrate Clairemont, CA for winning the pageant as the best suburb to live in, but we'll still wear our runner up badge with pride... and authority.

They specifically cited Downtown Campbell as part of what makes Campbell such a great place to live. Naturally we're honored, but we wouldn't be much without our community, our fans and our supporters. It takes people of all types to create the culture that happens in Downtown Campbell and what would we be without our culture? You're all a part of that and we'd like to thank you for helping us make Downtown Campbell the wonderful place it is and in turn contribute to making Campbell a best kept secret no longer.
