NMBA Seeks Board Members

Posted on December 21st, 2011 by Lighthouse District

The New Monterey Business Association (NMBA) is now accepting nominations for its 2012 Board of Directors! The Association meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 8:30am.

This is a particularly exciting and challenging year as the Board works with member businesses, the City, and the neighborhood to define the character of Lighthouse Avenue. Please consider joining us as we tackle the many issues impacting business on our street.

The mission statement of the NMBA describes it as "a community of businesses united to achieve the common goals of economic vitality and to reaffirm the spirit of New Monterey." We invite you to join the NMBA Board of Directors as we work together to achieve that goal!

Please call NMBA President Cris Staedler at 831-649-1799 or the NMBA office at 831-655-8070 for more information or to volunteer to serve on the Board.

Established in 1985, the City of Monterey's Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) directs tourist-generated dollars directly back into the City's residential neighborhoods. Under a City Charter Amendment, at least 16 percent of the money collected from hotel taxes must be spent on neighborhood and community improvements.

Every year, the City of Monterey asks interested citizens to submit proposals for projects in their neighborhoods to be considered for funding from NIP. Eligible projects can include improvements to parks and recreational facilities; improvements to other public buildings; upgrades or installation of sidewalks, streets, storm drains, sewers, lighting and traffic control devices; or the purchase of open space.

Residents are now asked to submit their NIP project nominations for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 on a form provided by the City of Monterey. The submission deadline is February 17, 2012. To learn more about NIP and to download the appropriate form to submit your idea, please click here.
