Networking Aloud: A Writers Open Mic featuring Maggie Bennett

This event has already passed

Old Capitol Books presents Networking Aloud: A Writers Open Mic. On Tuesday, July 14, 6pm-8pm, we’ll feature Maggie Bennett, who will be kicking off the event with a 15 minute reading of her work. Come early and sign up for a 5-7 minute reading of your own writing from any genre: prose, screenplay, poetry, or essay. We applaud one another; no critiques allowed. Bring work in progress or published material, we want to hear your voice!

On July 14, the featured writer will be Maggie Bennett, a long-time midwife in Monterey County. She participated in the legislative process of changing home birth midwifery from a felony to an ever more popular option of childbearing. Maggie has won many awards for her work on behalf of women’s rights to self determination and reproductive rights and has contributed many articles to journals and newsletters. She will be reading from her first published contribution to a book, Into These Hands by Geraldine Simpkins, an anthology of essays by important midwives in the American Childbirth Movement. Maggie Bennett is a graduate of the University of Illinois, a licensed midwife, an artist, and the mother of two grown men.
