The Old Monterey Foundation is pleased to announce that its series of plein air painting events continues this year with Art in the Gardens on September 12 and 13, 11am-4pm.

This free event introduces the public to many “secret” gardens in Old Monterey, showcasing their rich history while inspiring contemporary gardeners to become involved. Watch local artists paint in the gardens on Saturday, and let them inspire in you a new appreciation for our city’s historic and modern charms. Then return on Sunday to admire the finished paintings and find one to enhance your home!

Saturday, September 12, 11am-4pm
Local artists will paint in and around the historic gardens of Old Monterey while volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the history of the gardens and their development. Admission is free.

Gardens will include: the Sensory Garden, Casa del Oro, California’s First Theatre, Doud House, Casa Soberanes, the Custom House Cactus Garden, Lower Presidio Historic Park, the Old Whaling Station, the Memory Garden, and Casa Serrano. Admission is free.

Event information area will be located in the Sensory Garden (on Olivier Street, outside Picket Fence gift shop), offering maps of the gardens to attendees. We will be selling tickets for a drawing to win original paintings donated by participating artists!

Sunday, September 13, 11am-4pm
Artists will display their newly painted pieces as well as other work in the Sensory Garden (on Olivier Street). Select artwork will be available for purchase.

At 1pm, the Judge’s Awards for the recently completed plein air paintings will be announced. Until 3pm, we will be selling tickets for a drawing to win original paintings donated by participating artists. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Proceeds will benefit the Old Monterey Foundation.
