MIIS and the Hayward Sustainability Speaker Series presents Brewing a Successful Sustainability Program, a talk by Cheri Chastain, Sustainability Manager at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., on Thursday, February 23, 6pm-7:30pm in MIIS's McGowan Building, Room 100.
Cheri Chastain, Sierra Nevada’s Sustainability Manager, will share Sierra Nevada’s amazing sustainability story. Learn how Sierra Nevada has incorporated sustainability into every decision that is made within the company and how it has led to having one of the largest privately-owned solar systems in the country, achieving a 99.8% diversion from landfill rate, and being the first company to achieve Platinum LEED and Zero Waste Certification at one facility. Cheri will share successes as well as lessons learned along Sierra Nevada’s sustainability journey as well has how Sierra Nevada intends to engage in policy and advocacy to continue to advance business sustainability efforts.
Cheri Chastain has been with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. for 10 years and is responsible for educating employees on environmental issues and programs, maintaining and developing policies and projects related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, zero waste, alternative fuels, and water conservation and reuse. Cheri also works outside Sierra Nevada’s walls on policy and advocacy issues relating to sustainability. Cheri is currently a member of the City of Chico’s Sustainability Task Force, Co-Chair of the Brewer’s Association Sustainability Subcommittee, and a board member of the US Zero Waste Business Council. Cheri has a BA and an MA in Environmental Geography.
