In 2011, China announced its five year
plan to spend a quarter of a trillion dollars to jumpstart the next phase of
its aerospace industry. The country currently has more airports under
construction, a growing workforce of engineers and assembly workers, and
recently acquired two American companies specializing in small propeller
planes.
As the country continues to lead the
charge to become the new leader in aviation power, Fallows discusses the scale
of China’s ambitious plans and what that would mean not only for the United
States but the rest of the world.
