Reading on the Ave Book Club: The Dovekeepers
All are welcome to attend the Reading on the Avenue Book Club, which meets in the Community Room of Willow Glen Library. On Wednesday, November 20, we'll be discussing The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman.
Nearly 2000 years ago, 900 Jews held out for months against armies of Romans on Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert. According to the ancient historian Josephus, 2 women and 5 children survived. Based on this tragic and iconic event, Hoffman's novel is a spellbinding tale of 4 extraordinarily bold, resourceful, and sensuous women, each of whom has come to Masada by a different path. All are dovekeepers, and all are keeping secrets - about who they are, where they come from, who fathered them, and whom they love.
