Medium bouquet will have 10-12 blooms with greenery. For the spring we expect ranunculus, anemones, tulips and many more beautiful blooms.

Venture Gallery presents the work of painter Edi Matsumoto and potter Sachiko Yokota, our featured artists for February. Their show, entitled Japonica, explores Japanese aesthetics. You are cordially invited to stop by the gallery and meet the artists on Tuesday, February 8, 2pm-6pm.

Edi Matsumoto's art explores Japanese aesthetics and celebrates "wabi-sabi," the beauty of the transient, imperfect, and impermanent nature of life. The stars of the exhibit are self portraits that reflect various aspects of Japanese traditions.

Sachiko Yokota specializes in creating usable containers to enhance daily life, including ikebana containers, vases, and Japanese style fountains. Her work is prized by collectors as well as other potters inspired by her unique techniques and glazes.

Venture Gallery is now open daily, 10am-6pm. Edi Matsumoto and Sachiko Yokota's artwork will be featured through February 2022. Venture Gallery is located at 260 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey. Visit our website to shop online for work by our local artists.

We are sad to report that Sushi Fly, located at 413 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey, will be closing. In a message from Sushi Fly's owner, Mike, on January 25, he wrote:

About 10 days ago, I broke my hand. After consultation with my doctor, it became clear that I would not be making sushi for up to 10 weeks. This recent injury and the stress of managing through Covid for the past two years was the catalyst that caused me to reassess my relationship with the restaurant and my role as a small business owner. As I began to think about my future, it became clear to me that owning a restaurant like Sushi Fly was not going to provide the quality of life I seek and I needed to make a change.

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing Sushi Fly will be closing our doors permanently on January 30.

Sushi Fly would not have been possible without our stellar employees and our loyal local customers! I cannot thank our employees enough for the success we have enjoyed over these past 4 years. Without you, we wouldn’t have made it this far. I truly appreciate all you have done. Lastly, I want to thank all the great customers. Many of you became regular customers and eventually became our friends. You helped us make it enjoyable and fun all these years.

Please come celebrate with us for these remaining days, our final day of service will be Saturday January 29, 2022.
